MAC games on ESPN are nothing more than a 3-plus hour commercial for the big games on Saturday. Very little talk of the teams playing on the field with most of the announcers' dialogue having to do with the top 20 teams meeting on their network that weekend. I don't feel like we get that on CBSSN.
My memory of this may be hazy but the year OSU-Michigan was (I think) undefeated vs. undefeated, we had the misfortune of playing on Wednesday that week. I remember wondering why the cameras were even shooting the game.

I just looked it up. 2006 season, we played on a thursday that week, beating Akron to secure our first MAC-East division title.

This may have been the game Lou Holtz clearly thought MAC schools didn't have as many scholarships, as well, which was fun. Always glad to see the broadcasters knowing their stuff.

Didn't he say something about us not even having the internet or something to that effect?

I don't remember him ever saying anything about us not having the internet, but I do remember him saying once that "[Athens] is 15 minutes from Columbus...by phone"

Yup. That was my final week in Athens. (Graduating two quarters early sounded like a good idea when I was thinking of the money, but not getting that extra two-thirds of a senior year in Athens really sucked.)

He did say something about the internet at halftime one game. If I recall, it was to the effect of "Athens, Ohio? I don't think they even get the internet down there!"

Mighty bold talk from someone from Follansbee West (BG) Virginia, the gateway to Mingo Junction..... and a Kent State attendee at that!!!!!

I am pretty confident the Cats will play better against Ball State in this game than they did the season that led to the bowl game featured in this video.

Trick-or-Treat in Athens will be going on simultaneously to the game. IMO, we could be staring at one of our worst crowds in a long time. Team needs to bring their own energy!

I know there's been a lot of talk about the problem of midweek games for the MAC.

From looking at the schedules, there seem to be a lot more mid week games then there used to be.

Including for some major programs.

I saw the tonight Georgia tech plays Virginia Tech.

I wonder if this will be the new trend ?

I guess I’m blessed to have a job that allows me to sneak to these games midweek. I would though like to once have a 55 degree evening to sit out in.

Just curious what the thought process is behind having it on a Thursday night about a week before? Any ideas?

This was a great night. I remember looking at the stands and it was more than what I expected from the fans. I remember the fans coming on the field after we won. And Lou Holtz did say Athens didn't have internet. Luckily we took the MAC East in that game and his comments did not effect recruiting.
