Miami leads the league in kickoff return yards and we still don’t kick it out of the endzone, coaches need to make better decisions

One thing for sure...this team has never appeared flat in terms of energy and fight. There may be playcall questions, but the intensity is there every game for 60 minutes.

I only could catch the 2nd half.

Awesome defense to shut out Miami and get points for the team.

Funny how the punt put OHIO back into the game and the next punt took them out of the game leading to the safety.

Miami defense looked like it did a great job of covering the OHIO receivers--time to throw but nobody open.

I hope you don’t tell on me, if we don’t have a kicker that can kick the ball in the endzone, we need to rescind our charity scholarship offer to the kicker that we have signed that was 1/2 with a 24 yarder and sign a real kicker.

It's easy to point the finger at the kicker, but is sort of short sighted. He did't give up 28 points in the first half nor take a safety. He's consistently one of the best kickers in the MAC and he led the nation in FG's in 2016. I know, "He's got one job" blah, blah. The sad fact is kickers miss sometimes, even in the NFL...

The kick curved. Isn't it possible the wind caught it at a bad moment?

Amen. That 2012 team should've annihilated Miami. Redhawks went 1-6 to finish the year ... that one win (you guessed it) ... Ohio.

In 2014, Miami finished season 1-5 ... and had Ohio dead to rights in that game. They were up 21-0 before blowing the game. That was a horrible Miami team that won only two games. I don't care if Ohio was 6-6 that year ... they should not be in a dogfight with that Miami team.

In 2016, Miami was 0-4 and was awful. They had not made the switch to Gus Ragland yet at QB. Ohio was clinging to 10-7 lead most of 2H and needed a fumble in the end zone late in the 4th quarter to seal the win. Ohio was dreadful on offense that day only gaining 197 yards.

In those three years, here are Miami wins:

2012: UMass, Akron, SIU ... and Ohio
2014: UMass, Kent
2016: Kent, BG, EMU, UB, CMU, UB, Ball (literally the six worst teams in the MAC that season)

Miami was not good in any of those games ... but pushed Ohio to the brink all three games. That 2016 reeled off six straight to end the year against the worst of the worst in the MAC and did it when they switched QBs to Ragland. So that is a much different Miami team than Ohio squeaked by.

This is my point ... Ohio might be 5-1 in Oxford with Frank. But the last three trips vs. pretty bad Miami teams have resulted in very close wins and a loss.

This year's version of Miami seems like they are more than competitive and have been beaten like a drum by Ohio for 5 straight years. I'm a little worried about rolling into a sleepy Yaeger Stadium on a weeknight and taking care of business. This game scares me a bit.
As I was saying ....

I as at the game, drove up from Cincy...

Real question is: 1 and 10 from the 14, 200+ rush yards and coaches throw the ball 3 times? I say run the ball down their throat like you have all night. I think we get 10 yds on four runs and then 4 yards on 4 runs to put the ball in the end zone. FGs are for losers. TDs win games. Some NFL coach, I think, said that.

Then, someone tells me Rock,y B on the TV said coaches should have kicked the ball deep and NOT onsides at the end. We did get the ball back but the field position sucked. Had we kicked it deep and held the field position would have been much better to get to the yardage for a FG.

In my opinion, tis 14 year HC, OC and DC were all outcoached tonight. In addition the team missed so many tackles and took so many bad angles all night we were lucky to be in it at the end.

Looks like the typical November fade to me.

Last comment, Martin has Miami moving in the right direction.

"Martin has Miami moving in the right direction." Well perhaps. He is 4-6, 20-39 at Miami. We will have to see how they finish and then move ahead in 2019 without Ragland, A. Smith, K. Young, some key OL starters and Gardner if he graduates and elects to go pro. On defense he loses 2 starting safeties, 2 starting linebackers (Koenig) and 2 starters on the DL. Miami is where EMU was a short while ago.
