I haven’t heard about our “abysmal” defense or how Solich can’t coach or recruit good players anymore. Lol
That’s why I have been arguing the opposite. Our defense is young and bound to struggle early. I knew they would improve. And I have no doubts as to whether Solich can coach and recruit.
Still some tough games coming up, right Sam? And performances and decisions from past games still are what they were.

But the Bobcats have taken care of business the past few games, and it’s been great to see. We all hope that continues and we see a Green & White celebration in Detroit next month.

The Bobcats are very definitely trending in the right direction!!! No friggin' doubt about that!! And I sure had my doubts about winning at WMU, which was fair given that Ohio hadn't won there in 20 years.

But as I've said before, Ohio was not only in this position but actually an even better one last year, 8-2 heading into 2 final games while actually having a better defense last year than this year. And we all know how that turned out.

It's easy to say we are negative. Sam Bobcat, please remember that a lot of us have been emotionally invested with Ohio a lot longer than you have (as I recall, didn't you say in another post you were a football parent? If you're not, I apologize for the mistake). I've been a fan almost my whole life and am part of a family that has 3 consecutive generations of Ohio graduates. A lot of us can make such a boast, I'm not the only one. And our perspective is that since 1968 Ohio hasn't won a MACC. This year is year I-don't-know-how-many of Ohio being so close. Will Ohio win it finally? Well, if past history is any indication of future performance, then no.

That being said, d*** straight Ohio can the MACC this year. And last night was a fantastic first step! But given what's happened for the last umteen years, and last year especially, that's all I'm willing to say. Let's see what happens in the next step, a tough road game against Fiami.

It's been a bit difficult to criticize or heap praise, considering the opposition (1-6, 3-5, 6-3 with a frosh QB making his first start). But what is really impressive is the one-sidedness of the last three games. 160-42. A lot different from the Kent game and even the 4th quarter of the NIU game when the offense disappeared. And they've mixed it up a bit using Papi in the running game (it even looked like he thought about passing last night) and more option passes. Plus the O line has been opening holes and protecting the QB much better than they were in OOC play. In conference games we lead the league in rushing and in fewest sacks allowed. The D has turned it up several notches but the DBs are still trying to face-guard instead of looking toward the ball to avoid PI.

And the other thing is, it's great to see this team grow. For a lot of us who do get salty about where this team has historically gone, the first few games continued that trend. Now the question becomes can they win these games that they historically choke? If they can, then they change the narrative. It's not like we're rooting against the team or anything, just is one of those things where it's like watching RoadRunner and the Coyote. You think just one time the Coyote is going to catch the RoadRunner (it happened in a Seth McFarlane bit, look it up, quite funny).

Nonetheless, the question becomes do we do it this year? I hope so, but as stated before, they gotta break some trends to do so.

Let’s not beat our chest yet, we have played below our potential for most of the year and now are starting to click eight games in, we could be undefeated and be in the top 25 if we played like we played last night consistently. Go Cats
I’m not chest beating, just observing that a month ago we needed to clean house and start looking for a new coaching staff. Nor am I crowning us champs yet. That said, I have come to realize that I would most likely get board with this forum without the many different opinions and observations from all of you. I appreciate all of it and the mediators who put in the time and effort to make this available for me. I love Ohio University and am ecstatic my son chose to accept the offer to play and learn here.

Agreed. Traditionally, there's been a late-season choke that would slide us to 8-4 and an appearance in (insert mediocre Alabama bowl here).

If we can continue playing at a high level and win out, I'd really like our chances in the MAC Championship. The West is down significantly. But we could easily lose to Miami, Buffalo or Akron. Long way to go.

The irony is the same can be said in regards to ignoring any shortcomings of the current team or program and continually voicing that perspective.

It works both ways.

Difference in opinion is fine. A lot of it is perception. You might read a comment and perceive it as negative. That's your perception. Doesn't mean you 100% understand the intent.

A lot of times people perceive that any acknowledgement of something that doesn't reflect an absolute positively glowing view of Solich, his team or program ... that they hate Ohio football. Simply not true.

Sometimes people create their own misery by assuming on here.

Just because you point out Rourke threw an INT ... suddenly you're anti-Albin and you're calling for everyone to be fired. It's quite a leap to make there. But people continue to do it.

Remember ... it was Sam bobcat who started this thread looking for a "debate" with those that didn't share his previous view of things. I applaud it ... I love the back and forth.

But someone previously put it best ... a lot of us have been aboard this train for 10, 20, 30+ years and have seen this program get THISclose to winning a title only to stumble. So excuse us for being a cautiously excited about where we're at after WMU.

Well, for argument's sake, I don't think this is correct. Mental health experts advise patients to focus on the positive, to count your blessings, not to dwell on the negative. For a fan board, sure I understand it, but let's not pretend that harping on the negative and living with constant reminders of past failure is good for your health the same way as finding positives in life and being optimistic about the future. It does not work both ways, the same can not be said about both perspectives with speaking of health.

Not to go too deep into the topic of mental health but although I agree with the concept of positive thoughts helping your mental health why do so many therapists insist on rehashing negative events.

I am a seasoned Mental Health therapist and the trend is pretty much on the side of short-term and cognitive behavioral therapy. In other words, what you think is what is tied to how you feel and, ultimately, how you behave; likewise, if you don't like something, either change it or realize that you are the one who is creating your own unhappiness. Problem solving is simply doing something differently until you find something that consistently works for you. Once you discover that you do find something that works, keep doing it, until, of course, it stops working. Besides, you are entitled to just one thing in this world and that is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, and so start working with what you have and enjoy the process. That is because the end result is only a new transition to a new direction in life. Therefore, find that which activates all five senses in pleasant ways that consistently bring you far more joy than unhappiness. This may come as a surprise, but life isn't always fun, so grow up and realize that we experience bad things at times in order to fully enjoy the good things.

For those of you who are dissatisfied with the Ohio program, it is time to enroll at Alabama, until another dominant program comes along and then enroll there. Good, God, the Internet has turned us all into morons. For God's Sake, how did other former OU Alumni survive not having a MAC football Championship team? Actually, many of them have done just fine, and so will all of us regardless if Ohio Wins the MAC or falls to the next three opponents on their schedule.

That is your free Mental Health Public Service Announcement for the day. Yes, you are welcome.

I have no idea how you came to this conclusion from what I wrote. Interesting. Very interesting indeed. Living in the Shadow of the Evil empire in Columbus must have been very painful for you too. You know, sometimes a pair of buckeyes is just a pair of buckeyes. You don't have to overcompensate as a Bobcat; after all, we always end up getting the girl regardless of the size of our Sports budget.

I am trying to be cautiously optimistic after last year's late-season freefall. I am hopeful that it is the opposite this year where we get to ruin these 3 teams's seasons.

Not sure what the Ohio State reference has to do with anything? Yes ... I live in Columbus, but didn't grow up here. Have zero ties or cares for OSU. I have survived here just fine ignoring them. They're pretty much irrelevant to me ... and I sure as hell don't try to overcompensate trying to compare myself or my rooting interests to anything Buckeye. Bizarre stretch there?

Win out and all this conversation is irrelevant. Miami is going to give Ohio all they can handle just like Akron did last year when Ohio blew it's chance. We'll see what happens Wednesday.

I left early for the bar at the end of the 3rd quarter because of a big lead helped by that defense. Since you knew they would improve, and they have, would you care use your crystal ball to offer up some numbers for the next Power Ball drawing and send them my way in a PM?
