It would be surprising if Bowling Green beats Buffalo but you never know. Buffalo had trouble with Central Michigan, who just lost to Bowling Green and hasn't won a MAC game. It would be surprising if Miami lost to Ball State, but you never know. Ball State just got a nice win against Western Michigan. There's pretty much never a sure thing in the MAC.
Thank you, exactly my point. I'm not saying those things "are" going to happen, I'm simply saying they "COULD" happen, which is why I can't stand seeing posts popping up on here by some going back to even last week about how Ohio's MACC drought has reached another year - when OHIO IS STILL ALIVE!!! Yes I know the help Ohio needs isn't in its favor, but it's not like it's impossible to happen either. Ohio needs BG and BSU to beat Buffalo and Miami, not Alabama and Clemson for crying out loud. Buffalo was simply gutted by an Ohio team that some think is mediocre at best (plenty of comments to back that up on this board!) and will be back on the road facing a team that has nothing at all to lose, and Miami doesn't even having a winning record and is playing a team coming off its most exciting win of the season. I know the vultures are circling on here waiting to pounce and feast on bobcats, but damn man, they better wait and make sure their prey is actually dead before swooping in because they'll be in for a rude awakening! Because these Bobcat are still very much alive - in the MACC race.
The exact same thing could be said last year after Ohio thumped Toledo.

The rah-rah crowd was planning the parade down Court Street to celebrate the MAC East title.

And then Akron happened.

That was as inconceivable of a loss as UB losing to BG or Miami losing to Ball State.

So yes ... it could happen.

But let's be honest ... lightning striking twice in one week in Ohio's favor is very, very unlikely.
Yes, it's somewhat unlikely to happen, but the talk about the MACC drought reaching 51 years was premature since the team still hasn't been eliminated from the MACC race and still has a chance to end up in Detroit.

Sorry ... the second Ohio lost at Miami it was over. Maybe not mathematically ... but it was over.

Same thing last year after Akron. They were still mathematically alive going to Buffalo... but everyone knew it was over.

Look, I'm a realist, so I know that the odds are stacked significantly against the best team in the MAC right now, but I believe that BG has now won 2 in a row... hopefully they will be watching a lot of our game film on how to give Buffalo a beat-down with the ground game.

Unfortunately that's only half the equation.

You need Ball State to beat a Miami team that's won two in a row and playing for bowl eligibility on senior day at home.

I am crazily thinking that BG beating Buffalo might be more likely than Ball St. beating Miami. Haven't seen the lines yet but my guess of both happening is in the 5-10% range.

at least both will be going in with some momentum and both are capable of scoring points. BG with a new coach and a two game winning streak and playing with nothing to lose could be a big wildcard in all of this. The MAC often cannibalizes itself, so maybe it will benefit us for once.

Buffalo may have clinched the East by Tuesday night, but if not I think we'll know quickly whether they are hung over from last week's beatdown. they either get off to a quick start and kill them quickly or it will be a game the whole way.

Akron has their starting qb back right? but I'm not sure that's helped them. Has he had a single game resembling what he did against us in his first career start last year?

Miami and Buffalo losing is totally possible. Ball St is a better passing team than NIU. Therefore their playaction game will be more effective than NIU. With Childers at NIU...Miami just stacked and played man...which led to their pick six for the win. BG with a shutout on D in the second half is definitely momentum building. Pelini likes to blitz so a couple of early Jackson interceptions is key. If you read Pelinis comments he said "a lineman said at halftime we should run it down their throats." And they did with a 8 minute drive. If you keep Jackson off the field and control the ball BG can win. To me, us and Miami had the harder schedule. Buffalo had the weakest. Now with these 2 teams we hope to lose....we on the other hand have to care of Akron first and foremost.

Ball State is giving Miami fits right now! BSU is up 14-7 and is in Miami territory again.

It's kind of pathetic that Ohio's only chance required BG & Ball St. to win. Once again, we get a 2nd place MAC East team. Another season of head scratching losses that doom our chances at a conference title. And to rub salt in the wound, it was a bad Miami team that did us in. Consistently mediocre and a meaningless home finale. Good luck selling those Dollar General Bowl tickets.

MAC Title hopes officially dead.

Are we allowed to discuss that now? Or is it still premature?

Would be and are....those are two separate categories. I would be a millionaire too if I won the lottery but alas I am not. So frankly, who cares if we would have been 2nd in the West, bottomline is it would have been the same route as in the East.....a one way ticket to a bowl game in Alabama without a connecting trip to Detroit.

So if Buffalo loses and Ohio wins, they along with Miami finish 6-2 in the MAC and Miami advances to the championship game. Do Buffalo and Ohio deem themselves as division co-champs?

BTW, Miami beat Ohio which beat Buffalo which beat Miami. What is the secondary tie breaker that sends Miami to the conf title game?

Buffalo would have lost to BG, who Miami and Ohio defeated. Then Miami gets tiebreaker over Ohio based on head to head. At least that is what was explained to me.
