This is me, just replace Tennessee with BG.

I dislike Miami, but I hate Bowling Green. Their campus looks like a love letter to 50s eyesores. I hate their colors. I hate their name. What the hell is Bowling and why is there no green in their color scheme. I don't know anyone who is excited that they went there. I hate that it's cold and flat and there's nothing interesting to look at. I can't stress it enough, I hate Bowling Green.

This is interesting. I can admit I don't have any ill will for BG. Part of it is that I have a dozen friends or more that went there. I totally get the distaste for the Cleveland Browns like colors, and the dreadful winter weather though.

Actually, the Browns have BG-like colors.

https://www.cleveland.com/livingston/index.ssf/2012/08/a_...

Lead graph from article:

"CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns' uniforms began as copy-cat attire. Decades ago, Paul Brown went to a Bowling Green game and fell in love with the color scheme. At least BG today puts a falcon on the helmet. The colors PB chose for the Browns were identified as seal brown and, I believe, traffic-cone orange."

Note the greatest article I could find on the subject, but I didn't have enough time to do a full nexus-lexis search. This has been well-documented over the years.

I like that we can always rely on OCF for a history lesson. That's for the share on that!

I agree on a couple points. Bowling Green's campus is ugly. I know a lot of people who went there, including my sister and her husband, and none of the people I know talk about how great it was the way all Ohio people do. But I don't hate Bowling Green. In a way, I feel kind of bad for those who had to experience college there rather than at Ohio.

Losing to BG in anything pisses me off more than losing to any other MAC school. That being said, I have never been to one of our games at BG in football or hoops, and I'm dying to go. It would be an easy drive up 75 for me, and as I've said on here a few times, I think their bar scene is every bit as good as ourd.

Hating Bowling Green is like hating an empty cardboard box. There's no reason to hate it. Or like it. Or have any opinion about it. It's Bowling Green. It's flat and boring and cold and windy and all the buildings look like...cardboard boxes.

Agree. Even their owns fans don't have strong feelings about the school.

I personally have one buddy and his wife who love BG as much as I love Ohio. But I've seen many who are BG grads that are effectively Ohio State fans, sadly. So I can see this.

I'd recommend it for a road game. I've been to the Stroh Center three times. The venue itself is actually pretty darn nice. It needs orange seats instead of brown. More than that, it needs students and fans to create atmosphere.

The football stadium is nicer than Peden in my opinion, but where it sits doesn't remotely compare.

Agreed on the bar scene. And if you go up there, stopping through Campus Polleyes is a must for a meal.

Great analogy. I think this is what frustrates me about recruiting at OU. The campus is so much more appealing than BG and so many of the other MAC schools. Coming into Athens was always a breath-taking view. I'm not sure you can really say that about other campuses.

Oh, did you know that Orel Hershiser went to BG?

Talking up the virtues of Athens and Ohio University on BA is preaching to the choir. However, Athens/SE Ohio/Ohio University is not for everybody.

Increasingly so as high achieving students more and more crave an urban setting/conveniences and lower end students — after watching my generation get crushed by student debt and a sticky job market for years — are giving up on the four-year college experience altogether and are choosing the more affordable community college or commuter school route.

I don't disagree with either of the two prior posts, but in this context, I was talking about student-athletes. SE Ohio may not be for everyone, but minus the close-to-home aspect, it sure as hell beats many of the MAC campus locations.

With the stability in coaching, sustained program success, athletic amenities and campus aesthetic, I feel like OU should have an advantage over other MAC schools. But I don't think that's a reality.

I concur with the masses on this one. The BUGS campus is just meh. Nothing to it. My parents insisted on me taking my visit there my senior year of high school after my visit to OU. It was kind of pointless to do but we went anyway.

However, I had friends there and because they were on semesters while we were on winter break, I had quite a bit of fun at Uptown/Downtown and other establishments that I can't remember.

And one of my friends lived on Scott Hamilton Drive.

Doesn't matter if Miami wins out. They would make it over us in a three-way tiebreaker based on their head-to-head win after Buffalo is eliminated based on division head-to-head results.
