So I'm at work today and a big time OSU blogger and co-worker of mine comes up and asks, "Have you heard anything about Burrows?" I was like not really have you?. He then goes on to say that word is JB asked for a transfer because he fell behind Urban's guy Haskins. He goes on to say that an OSU insider stated Haskins has been taking 2nd team reps....and that JB fell to 3rd team. He also says that Tom Herman had to convince Urban to offer him when he came out. Now that Herman is at Texas....JB is not highly favored anymore. Word is that most people on their board like JB and runs a better RPO at times better than JT Barrett. I usually never get into gossip like this....but it was weird to be approached and asked to keep my ears out for a Burrow transfer. Does anyone else have any insight?

Just common sense.

If he graduates in the spring he can play anywhere immediately, otherwise he has to sit out a year.

Does he want to play where his dad coaches?

I think he's more likely to transfer to Nebraska than Ohio, especially if Scott Frost is their new HC. I feel like someone posted an article on Burrow during his recruitment where he stated that Nebraska was his first offer he was really excited about. Could he beat out Tanner Lee? I think so.

I don't know if it's law or anything, but I believe the big 14 has a gentlemen's agreement about in-conf transfers.

In conference transfers are ineligible for a scholarship. JB would be a graduate transfer and that is an entirely different ball game.

Big Ben chose a MAC school that would allow him to have a legitimate shot at starting as a Freshman instead of a backup role with possible future playing time in Columbus. Burrows ended up choosing a situation that is going to result in four years with zero meaningful snaps in competition. A kid who knew the program better than any recruit in history chose not to come play for Solich and Albin.

Friday, I had a long conversation with a friend of mine who was the backup QB to Chad Pennington and Byron Leftwich. He echoed my thoughts about the MAC being a great path to the NFL. A quality QB recruit then snowballs into linemen and WRs wanting to be part of the show, too. Maybe Burrows was told a different story 4 years ago by OSU, but unfortunately we will never know what kind of college career he would've had.

That was my point, go where you can play and lead and not worry about looking over your shoulder. Urban Meyer gets a top 5 QB every year. Burrow ended up beating out one (Gibson). He is a better runner than Haskins. Burrow is pretty accurate as well, Haskins has a gun. He probably has much more arm strength than most NFL starting QB's

Frost somehow managed to get a 5-11 sophomore named McKenzie Milton ranked #2 nationally in passer rating (trailing only the Heisman front-runner) and lead the nation's top scoring offense. He was also the QB Coach and OC for a guy named Marcus Mariota who was apparently pretty good.

(And he also broke into coaching at Nebraska in 2002. You know who else was a coach at Nebraska in 2002? Jimmy Burrow.)

EDIT: For the record, I think he'll stay at osu. But if he transfers, I think Nebraska is a legit option.

If he transferred to OHIO, is there any guarantee that he could beat out Rourke for the job?

Also of note is that Rourke has not taken a redshirt year. So if by chance Burrow graduated and came to Ohio with two years left, Rourke could redshirt one of those two years and still have a year left after Burrow graduated. That's a lot of ifs and coulds, however.

He would beat Rourke, Rourke is good, Burrow is already an NFL talent.

Seriously? We are struggling to complete 50% of our passes. In 1962 that was considered a great percentage. In 1962, you also had more hair.

I don't understand how you can say he's an NFL talent when he's not even OSU's backup and, as was posted earlier, he's never had a "meaningful' snap ?

Well, I respect Burrow for trying to go big at OSU. Much respect. How many years does he have left? If he transfers, I hope he goes somewhere he can start and have a lot of fun and success playing. A place like Youngstown State might fit both of those hopes.

OSU's starter doesn't seem to be NFL QB talent, so what makes you think the third string QB is?

We've heard before that a Big Ten bench-warmer is going to come to Athens & save the day. They came and were mediocre and threw pick 6's in the bowl game. I'd love to be proved wrong but will believe it when I see it.

I would love it if Joe Burrows came back to Athens, but I just don't see it. He probably goes to Texas. Honestly, does anyone think someone with the hype of Joe Burrows is going to come back home when he's not assured of being the starter? At least if he's not the starter in Texas, he can claim he got beat out by big time talent rather than a Canadian that no recruiter bothered to visit. When you ask most people about Oakville, Ontario, I am sure you get a lot of head scratching and maybe just maybe an HGTV fan mentions Love it or List and knows that Oakville is a trendy Toronto exurb.

As for Roethlisberger coming to the MAC some 15+ years ago, he played back up. The deck was stacked against playing second fiddle to the coach's son at Findlay High. With that kind of nepotism, he wasn't getting near the looks as most promising high school quarterbacks. He honored his signing commitment with Miami once the scouts realized what they had missed.

I think he picked the wrong Ohio football factory school. He should have gone to D3 powerhouse Mount Union. Would have gotten yearly national exposure playing in the Alonzo Stagg Bowl. Mighty Mount has recently placed 2 NFLers in Pierre Garçon and Cecil Shorts III in the NFL! Tony Romo came out of a small school and he had a pretty good career, lol. I fully get the desire to go Big with the Buckeyes and I truly think he could excel at that level. It’s obvious though that Barrett was Urban’s guy come hell or high water, sometimes to the Buckeyes detriment. I’m of the opinion that UM would have knocked off THE if Barrett didn’t get injured and played the whole game.

Yes, we believe Burrow could come home. Roethlisberger turned down Ohio State, we can try to minimize it. He wanted to go somewhere that he could play right away and throw the rock. People turn down bigger offers all the time, good things can happen to Ohio. He could go to Texas and he could come to Ohio. I think we have good tailbacks and if we could grab a couple of wide receivers, we can give him a great platform. Rourke is a competitor and has a vision to be great and play pro ball, Burrow will have to step his game up and overcome the start forever notion. I think Burrow stays, Meyer is a great salesman, I hope that if he stays, he has the opportunity to play. His father should help him mae the best decision for himself, Ohio is not a bad option.
