Most years we have a player who is pretty new to college football that has a HUGE impact out of nowhere. AJ Ouellette, Quentin Poling, Mike Mitchell, etc. Who is your guy this year? Keep it to someone who is in only their first or second year o college football altogether ie not an incoming grad transfer.

I'll say Tony Mathis on D and AJ Miller on O.

I’ll play.

Mathis and Miller are 2 good ones.

I’ll go with Evan Herrmann on D and Tim Carpenter on O.

Mason.

Do we still consider him a young player? Feels like we've been ready for his breakout for a few years now. I think he's ready for a HUGE step forward. And we need it.

Nah, he's entering his third year with the program, an incumbent starter. We know who he is.

I wanna say Mike too but he's probably behind Brune and the Drake transfer. I will say though that one thing I've learned being a fan of this program under this coaching continuity is that if you're a running back and you did not arrive as a walk-on, it won't be long before you're on the field.

Hype Grand certainly has the name for a little pre-season hype. I know he's listed as a QB, but maybe he'll get on the field another way. How can one not be a little hyperbolic about a player with a name like that?

Do we have any idea who is the DE and Jack LB in this defense? I like the Luqman pick. So many new faces in these spots.

These are the 2 I would have picked! Both were early enrollees also! Our LB depth is a weakness entering the season so Christopher may get some time.

Transfers: Joseph Marsh on the defensive line and Caleb Chamberlin in the defensive backfield.

Luqman is entering his fourth year of college football. He's brought here to plug and play.

Remembering other "mystery players" we've had, I'm wondering how long the nation will wait! ;-)

Going with the genetic lineage known as the ‘Shawn Factor’.
Jay Crable DE - Dad Shawn Crable, Michigan LB, NFL third rounder
Jermaine Minnis LB - Uncle Shawne Merriman, Maryland LB, NFL first rounder

Also like Joseph Marsh DE - Dad and both brothers NFL draft picks

Fair point. In the spirit of picking a "young" player, I'll switch to Duncan Brune.

It's a crowded WR room but I would love to see Hurst or Dorwart make an impact.

Seems like Charlie Christopher will make a big impact at LB.

Also agree on Mike Taylor Jr. Hate to say it but we are an injury or so away from him seeing some meaningful PT.

And FWIW, DE Ike Ackerman is our 2nd highest rated recuit of all time per 247 sports...that has to mean something right?

Ackerman and Christopher were my 2nd and 3rd choices on D.

My wife is from Omaha like Ike so there’s that.

You must be older than you appear, if you remember that. I was in 1st grade, when we would all chant, "Whistle while you work, Stevenson's a jerk, Eisenhower's got the power, so whistle while you work!" Yes, Athens was solidly Republican back then. I just present this for a little historical levity. First graders can say strange things. Let's not turn this into some political bashing contest. To me that's just kind of a funny memory of kids acting like kids.

Will have to go in another direction as the word on the street is that Bob is no longer in the program.

He's still in the program. I think he might be out for the year with a lower leg injury.
