The offensive line has improved tremendously in recent years, first under Dave Johnson, then under Bart Miller. I'm sorry to see him go. Hopefully they can find someone else as good as these two were.

We should go get AJ Blazek from North Dakota State. Has Big Ten ties....played at Iowa and was an assistant at Iowa when he first started. Iowa has a top Strength & Conditioning programs in the country and would be beneficial to our program working with Dak. They have the top lineman this year in Tanner Volson (6'4" - 306lb Center). NDSU lineman have won all 6 years since the award began.

He voluntarily left a $350K job at Rutgers for the NDSU job, what makes you think he would come here for 80-90K, and he coached at Rutgers last season, had nothing to do with NDSU linemen the past 6 years. Blazek, never even coached Tanner Volson. May want to do some research before you go posting things.

I know he didn't coach him. I'm valuing NDSU's success from a lineman standpoint. The salary part I wasn't aware of. I'll give you credit there. But we may have more to offer in future success than NDSU. And have a decent track record now to promote that. Worth a shot. I might leave Rutgers coaching $350,000 if I know they won't ever be a top tier team in the Big Ten. Hard to get promoted. Im not sure if that is the true reason he declined a raise and still hold assistant coaching title to go back down to FCS. Sometimes winning is better than losing with a few extra bucks in your pocket.

350k is over 3 years of salary to what a MAC school pays their OL coach. Hell, he could go to Japan and coach for a couple years on that kind of cash.

Depends on where you are from and what you need to be happy. NDSU's QB will be at the NFL combine. Ninth player in ten years at the combine for the Bison. For a kid from Wichita Kansas, stability to raise your family in Fargo is not so bad. Plus he already has experience with the head coach.

I was just trying to explain how I interpreted ExCat21's post. I have no opinion. I did look up Rutgers football and their coach is Chris Ash, and this year will be his fourth year, and last year he was 1-11. From just a quick glance, I'd say that it seems very possible he is on his final year, and it also seems possible that someone might have believed that he wouldn't even make it to 2019.

Based on a pretty easy schedule,there was a lot of optimism on the part of Rutgers fans that they would be at least .500 and go to bowl.

That feel apart fast.

Most of the RU fans I know would like Ash gone.

Problems are:

1.The cost of a buy out.
(RU has the lowest revenue of any B1G team,with no prospects for improvement)

2.Except for wrestling,RU sports have virtually no fan support,outside of some die hards.

3.RU can't recruit well in NJ,let alone the rest of the US

All of this resulted in keeping Ash.
People aren't exactly knocking down RU's door to come there.
Even Schiano isn't interested in coming back.
(Lighting only strikes once)
Most likely nothing will change until Ash's contract ends.

And Wyoming's facilities are nicer also. I just went to their athletics website and saw that they've announced a $44 million expansion of their indoor practice facility, or High Altitude Performance Center as they call it. $24 million raised through private contributions and the remainder coming from the state. Like CB66 said, it helps to be the only major university in the state, at least FBS-wise. From a dollar perspective, Wyomng's more bigtime than Ohio is. What Solich and Ohio have been able to do on a shoestring budget is amazing.

Hard to blame an asst. coach for leaving to double his salary. According to The USA Today 2018 story on coaches salaries, Wyoming had $1.924 million to spend on assistant coaches compared to Ohio's $1.059 million. Six Wyoming coaches earned over $150,000. Ohio's DC and OC didn't earn that. San Diego State who Ohio shut out in a bowl game had four coaches making more than $189,000 and another over $147,000. The Aztecs total pay for assistants is over $1.7 million yearly. Ohio can't touch either one of those MWC schools in asst. pay.

Money is never the only criterion that a person looks at when making a job decision. Thought it is important, there are other factors, too. Some of them include job security, potential for advancement, a good work environment, a nice community to live in, and being treated with respect. Ohio obviously can't compete with some of the other schools in terms of salary, so they need to focus on the things they do have to offer. It's surprising, in some respects, how little turnover Ohio has had.

Family must also play a significant part in this discussion. Consideration of a spouses career, keeping kids within at least a neighboring state of their grandparents. To some these things are unimportant, to others they are very important.

To play the devils advocate here, but I would guess that Solich’s age should make any potential coach wonder about the long term prospects here. Just saying.

I like this hire, except for one thing. He's apparently done a good job along the way, but he has never stayed at any one place for more than two years. Only in the case of Minnesota did his job change result from a head coaching change. It will be interesting to see how long he stays in Athens.

We got what we had reason to expect. He did a great job for his one year, and now I hope they can get someone just as good for next year.
