This reminds me of another very sad situation of the same type, involving our former head coach, Cleve Bryant. Though his slimy behavior finally reached the public spotlight at Texas, I've been told by numerous people that it went on at OHIO also. I had no idea about this, and no one ever told me that, until after he was fired. It's a not a good thing that we swept this under the rug for so long.

I personally feel a little guilty about this because I was a very early supporter of hiring Cleve. I contacted the AD very early in the search process and suggested Cleve Bryant as a candidate. At that point he had been a top assistant at North Carolina, had recruited some excellent players, and appeared to be a rising star in the coaching ranks. He was, of course, a legend on the field as QB here. And, when hired he was, as I recall, only the second African American head coach of a D1 school. I thought that this would be a real feather in our cap, and that it would give us a leg up in recruiting superior black athletes. These are the things I told the AD. This an example of how one can look at a situation objectively and come away with all the wrong conclusions.

Well today, after being reminded of all these things by this thread, I went back and re-read the following story. Be forewarned it contains some graphic descriptions of nasty behavior: https://tinyurl.com/ybxda4o3

I would go with this: Let the legal process work as it's supposed to. If he's convicted, he should face a harsh penalty that takes into account the position of trust that he held.

Obviously - and as LC says - then sentence severely not have the attitude of the idiot judge in Kansas. https://fox2now.com/2019/02/07/kansas-judge-calls-teen-vi... /

More sad news...

Former Vice-Chancellor and A.D. David Williams at Vandy passed away today, 8 days into his retirement. His retirement party was scheduled for tonight with 500+ expected to attend.

He was also a former resident of Columbus...

Terribly disappointing. I knew Sean quite well during my time in Athens and this news shocked me. He had done great things with the Bedford program on the field and based on past news articles had helped to develop kids off of it.
I had lost touch with him in recent years but followed his career at Bedford from afar. Really sad.

Ok, let’s get something straight! Banging of age married women is a whole lot different than sleeping with underaged children that are under your care and influence in the public school setting. Your post clearly implies that Cleve was doing the latter, that is a very serious allegation. Did Cleve have some issues? Sure, but you are taking things into an entirely new arena by comparing these two events. Not cool

By saying "of the same type" I was implying unwanted sexual advances, no more no less. I was not referencing the age of the women involved. I think this is more your reading than my writing. But, the stories I heard about this kind of activity in Athens didn't involve married women, but I'm not going to get into details here.

As I said the stories I heard about Cleve in Athens did not involve adult, married women. And, I was not equating anything like what you are alleging. All I was saying was hearing about a former Bobcat athlete involved in a sex scandal reminded me of another former Ohio athlete who lost a job due to a sexual scandal. I wasn't making any statement that the two sexual scandals were on some kind of morally equivalent level. Neither reflects well on dear Old OHIO.

Sorry, but OCF directly through his story laid the comparison. No place for unwanted advances either, but the situations are NIGHt and DAY. No reason to even bring Cleve into this, but OCF sure has. I am not the on

I guess I missed the part about rape. Can you point that out? As for Cleve .. total POS. What normal person 63 years old would pull down the top and bra of a 24 year old a couple years out of college who reported to him? Only a sick SOB would.

It’s definitely statuatory rape at the least of true, this article seems to indicate that they have overwhelming evidence. Was Cleve ever convicted? I am only 43 so Cleve was a little before my time. https://www.cleveland.com/court-justice/2019/02/bedford-h...

Sex with an under age minor is rape they cannot give consent. Cut his head off if found guilty but child molesters usually only get a slap on the wrist strangely.

Convicted of what? Again, Cleve never committed a crime. Was he guilty of creepy behavior? Yes, but his was a matter of work place harassment, and civil misconduct. This is exactly why OCF posting that on this thread is ingenious and dishonest, Sean Williams and Cleve’s situation are night and day.

Again, I'm going to have to question your reading comprehension. I never said Cleve committed a crime. I said he lost his job because of slimy behavior. I said the current situation reminded me of Cleve because it was another case of a former Bobcat athlete being involved in sex scandal. I didn't say that the two situations were exactly alike. I didn't say one had a greater or a lesser slime factor. As you usually do, you go looking for an argument where there really isn't one. And, again, I've said this three times, at least, the story I heard about Cleve's sexual misconduct at Ohio that I most remember did not have to do with married women. But, as another poster pointed out, his dismissal at Texas was due to workplace sexual harassment of a rather overt variety. I don't know about the laws in the state of Texas, but that probably would have been a crime if the victim had pressed charges in a court of law. But, again, that's your point not mine. I was not making an argument about criminality.

You definitely compared the two situations. If the one reminded you of the other then what else could you be doing? Maybe allen wants to kick the tire on this guy as a coach? Lol

If it was just an accusation and not a charge, then maybe. We did offer roger Lewis jr who was actually charged with rape and acquitted and Indiana has reinstated the player in question, so some judiciary’s that are more educated and less mediocre than you agree with me. I rest my case for the 8th time, I will just chalk up the constant attack as medi soreness, could trouble you for the next year.

There are subtleties here in my statement and allen's that seem to be missed by some posters. Like allen, I'm going to be done with this thread. I'll just end by saying that I'm sad every time I hear about a former Bobcat athlete who does wrong. I don't immediately think -- hey, slimy behavior A is a lesser sin than slimy behavior B. If the way my mind works in remembering these things is a sin here on BA, feel free to tar and feather me in this thread to your heart's content.
