I hope Sporting News' projection for Ohio doesn't come to fruition. All that game would be is a repeat of Ohio's last home non-conference game before conference play starts.

This is the only thing college sports media does that is more ridiculous than the "too early Top-25" for hoops that gets released a few days after the Final Four.

I've always wanted The Onion to parody this by releasing a Top 25 25 years in advance, discussing unborn players based on the athletic ability of parents going on a first date.

No need to worry about UConn begging us to let them back in the conference for football. It seems they have made it official; they're paying 17 million to get back in the Big East, primarily for basketball and going Independent for football. This means one of two things; 1. football is going to be even be more irrelevant than it was before or, 2. football's days in Storrs are very much numbered.

At that time of year, it has to be better than Detroit, or NYC, or DC...

I know they spent a fortune to make the jump to FBS and try to be a national player but it obviously has not worked out sans the Fiesta Bowl year and some other middling bowl games.

Depending on where independence takes them, it might make more sense to work on a transition back down to FCS like Idaho did and be a nice fit into the CAA along with a lot of other New England/Northeastern schools. Looks like the furthest away members are in NC and VA-better than Houston, New Orleans etc.

Still could be hard to sell/justify after building Rentschler Field but games against New Hampshire, Villanova etc. could draw more fan interest than Memphis or Cincinnati and also makes it a possible draw for more traveling fans.

I think UConn and UMass will be playing each other for the foreseeable future and could start a series with Army, too as teams are only about 100 miles apart.

It wasn't that long ago Bobcat fans would be elated to attend ANY bowl game. Wow, times have changed big time!

Something similar has happened for Ohio players, too. A couple years ago Solich mentioned that getting to bowl eligibility once was such a big deal for his players, but not so much anymore.

Don’t get me wrong; I’ll be excited for any bowl game Ohio’s in. I just hope the opponent’s someone other than Louisiana, who Ohio will already be playing on Sept. 21st in Athens.
