This is sad news. I remember watching him play for the Browns. We was a real legend. As a kid, I recall being so proud that he was a Bobcat playing in the NFL. Though I never met him personally, I understand that he was a very nice person and a credit to Bobcats everywhere. He will be missed. RIP!

Personal Rant: Too bad the OHIO football media guide for several years left him off the list of Bobcats who had played in the NFL. I pointed out the omission to them, and the very next year they left him off again. I believe that was the last printed version of the media ever produced.

Interesting tidbit. Vince and Jeff Boals went to the same high school. It was called Magnolia High when Vince went there and then Sandy Valley. It's up in Tuscarawas County near Dover and New Philadelphia.

even further: according to the Browns' release, he played on a 6- man team in HS. I never knew we had these in OH. Vince was the QB.

6-man teams in Ohio were fairly common in the pre-consolidated HS era.

I believe I saw the last 6 man game in Ohio, circa 1962. Flushing beat New Athens 52-48 and there wasn't a single punt in the game.

1962 was my senior high school season. For our annual season preview night, we hosted Dover HS. Its varsity and ours played two quarters and so did the two JV teams. Then came two 6-man teams playing an abbreviated game. Wow! For their players, there was a STRONG emphasis on speed and quickness.
