"The Peden & Convocation LED Display Installation project is the installation of new ribbon boards in both Peden Stadium
and the Convocation Center at the Athens Campus. Possible ribbon board locations have been determined: Peden North
End Zone at the walkway level with approximate 100’ width, multiple locations at the Peden South End Zone at the
stadium seating level with a 16’-26’ width, and multiple locations at the Convocation Center at the floor level with a 16’-26’
width"

This is exciting and surprisingly unknown to the general public?

What are the odds that in South End Zone they place them where people can walk in front of them rendering their message unreadable? Opening odds I'd place at 50 percent.

+1, sad but true. Just when we solved that problem in the Convo...hah.

Knew that was coming as surely as George Meade had predicted Pickett's Charge.

Got all excited when I saw the title of the thread.

Thought maybe they were upgrading the lighting on the exterior of the Convo.

Oh well.crying

What would be a great enhancement, but I know certainly would cost a few bucks is to move the scoreboard to the top of the hill and raise it up another 10-20 feet. it looks so awkward "behind" the hill and so freaking far from the stadium.

Except Pickett would have won if he had had a shuttle bus to get up that rise.

That was one of my recommendations in response to Jim's email to fans.

On a similar topic......

Did the Convo, at one time, have some kind of digital sign out front along Richland Avenue, promoting upcoming events and such? It would have been in the early days of such technology.

I feel like I have seen a photo or two with such, but I could totally be dreaming this up.

Not digital, but a board with removable letters with campus events. City sign vice lords had this removed in the early 90's

Columbus police just recently disbanded its vice squad. Perhaps Athens police has done the same with its sign vice lords department.

I have an old post card of the Convo with the message board out front. If I was smart enough to post the photo here, I would.

I think outdoor lights pointing towards the convo would be sharp. not sure how it would effect the dorm rooms. BUT I have been waiting for years for them to power wash the outside. it is embarrassing, especially during graduation! well we even aren't able to walk around the Convo??? oh well

I updated the board a couple of times as a student volunteer in the Sports Information Office.

I remember that, years ago. it was corny and not showing where to park, I think anyone on Richland Ave. would know when there is a game. now lets get to parking. ridiculous. fortunately I have a Blue lot pass. Instead of putting up game day signs, I think OU should show alternative parking. it has been a hustle since OUPD has been putting up those obnoxious cement wall barriers in front of Peden on home FB games. oh... and I have visitors for games. It was difficult to explain to my friends 10 year old son why PD were holding M16's all over the place. I am a long timer born and raised. imagine even younger children seeing that!!? ok ill shut up

Same here. I don't know the timeline, but I feel like it was lite better while I was a student in the 90's.

Despite being old tech, this would be much, much better than the lack of signage that is there currently. And I bet the retro look would be rather inexpensive.

Bump...

Where are we on this? The first post in this thread mentions that several locations were determined but I'm wondering what was decided and when we will know more about their progress. Peden should be done for this season, right?

My guess - Peden boards will be installed by 11pm on August 30th, but the software to run it all won't work until Homecoming.

I'm not complaining - I am merely stating that based on past experience, that's my expectation for this project. That they're getting them at all is a bonus to me.
