Ohio Football’s 2019 OOC schedule has similarities to 2018

Ohio football is back and before they try and win that elusive MAC championship, the Bobcats have four games to play. Last season, Ohio almost lost to FCS opponent Howard. The Bobcats then lost back to back games to Virginia and Cincinnati, with the latter one being heartbreaking with a late turnover at the goal line. Ohio then bounced back with a 58-42 victory against Umass.

The biggest difference last season was the defensive resurgence in the second half of the season. Some might’ve presumed it was due to facing easier offenses to stop in the MAC, but then Ohio blanked SDSU 27-0 in the Frisco Bowl.

So what does 2019 have in store for Ohio?

I think Ohio will go 2-2 to start the season, with losses on the road against Pitt and Marshall.

I think this year's a carbon copy of last year, with the offense being relatively young and inexperienced at key positions, like last year's defense. Other than Kansas, when was the last time Ohio beat a P5 team on the road since the 2012 Penn State game? And Marshall is extremely tough this year; beating them at their place would be quite a feat. It definitely could happen for sure, I'm just not predicting it.

I think Ohio again goes 8-4 with a 6-2 MAC conference record again, which hopefully will be good enough to win the MAC East this year, unlike last year. I can't imagine any other MAC East team going 7-1.

You underestimate the lack of respect that Doc Holiday and his staff will give OHIO in attention and preparation. I’m not sure he’s learned that humility yet. Marshall will be talented, but Doc will be the equalizer. Like the year we threw for 300 yards on swing passes and like 5 TD’s on the same play.

You may very well be right BTC. My only question I have is, will Ohio's offense be experienced enough to be rolling by game 3? If Rourke, who by all accounts has improved (so far) from last year, is playing to his potential and the offensive line and WRs are doing what they're capable of doing, then yes they should beat Marshall. A lot of "ifs" but certainly more than possible.

The OOC game I really want Ohio to win is Pitt. If Ohio wants to be a major G5 team or have any chance at all (as remote as that may be) for the G5 at-large slot for the New year's Day game, then they need to beat Pitt. We should've beaten Cinci last year. Oh well.....

I was at that game and it was GLORIOUS after Leftwich got the pick it was like the entire team and stadium just erupted.

Tim Albin wasn’t on fire, Tim did what Tim always does, and when he found what worked he ran with it. . Marshall just spent zero time that week prepping for us, coaching friends even went as far as saying Holiday did not even watch film on us. His lack of respect for the MAC is pretty widely known.

How about when one of Marshall's thugs piled on JD Sprague after the play and he was 3 yards out of bounds? Ended his career. I don't know why we play them. I hope it is a day game. Huntington gets scary after dark.

We are playing Louisiana (Lafayette) Ragin Cajuns, right? If so, they're selected first in Street and Smith, media, Arena Fanatic, College Football News, and isn't selected worse than 3rd in any poll, according to your link. I think you're mistaking Louisiana for Louisiana-Monroe.

Cajuns have 3 of the best young RBs I've seen recently. Trey Ragas..he ran thru and over Alabama who never gives up 100 yards rushing

I think the 2019 and 2018 non-conference schedules are/were truly excellent. The point of a non-conference schedule for most schools not trying to balance their budgets or not named Alabama, Ohio State, etc is to prepare a team to win a conference championship. Ohio will have to battle to beat Pitt, Marshall, and ULL. Win or lose, Ohio will be sharpened by the time the MAC schedule arrives. I wish the 2019 Marshall Team could be put in the MAC west for one year and meet Ohio in the championship game. Marshall vs Ohio for all the marbles. Love it. I respect Marshall football though I want to beat them every time.

We will beat Marshall, unless that QB of theirs has improved a great deal over the winter he is vastly overrated. I went to two Marshall games last year and he was bad in both, including the Texas-San Antonio game.

Its a challenging non-conference but I think its going to be different this year entering the season with the best overall D and QB in the MAC. Ohio might have to grind out a couple non-conference wins but 3-1 should be doable. Pitt has Virginia the first week and Penn State the week after. They can't afford to go vanilla in week 1 against UVA whereas Ohio is getting a glorified scrimmage against URI. Reading the practice reports Solich has made comments to the effect that the team is ahead of schedule so far which is a good sign.

Let's check Steele's position rankings for Pitt, Marshall and ULL. Note these are where these teams fit in their perspective conference strength wise. Pitt looks like a second division ACC team across most of their units. Marshall is a good CUSA team but Doc doesn't have a good history overall against Ohio. The ULL rankings are out of 10 with the 7th best QB of 10 in the conference. They seem like a team Ohio can create some turnovers against.
