I got an offer in my email for one year subscription to ESPN + for $39.99. It appears it’s available to anyone and wasn’t a invite only offer. Here’s the link:

Last year there was only one Ohio game on ESPN+, if I recall correctly, the first game. This year the first game was once again on ESPN+. It remains to be seen if any others are on it.

I would advise trying the $4.99 monthly deal first and see if you can put up with the problems. While I was watching the game Saturday the dang image froze five different times when coming back from commercial breaks. Message came up: this video is not available now .....try back later. Well yuck, I went back to home page each time and typed in Ohio University and finally got the game back on. If the Bobcats had been winning, I would have probably punched out my poor HP computer.

I've not had those kind of problems with ESPN+ and my Apple TV. Seems to be a good combination.

Consider how much you're going to use it. It's $4.99/month, so if you're going to use it more than nine or months of the year, the annual price is better. If you want it just for Ohio football and basketball, then you probably should just pay the monthly price and cancel in March.

So many football games are on other networks that there aren't that many MAC football games on ESPN+. But most of the MAC basketball games are.

Agreed - I bought it for hoops season last year and used the heck out of it, and enjoyed it. For football, I don't really see the value in it for the few Ohio/MAC games that will be on it that I'll want to watch. If the game is on ESPN+, I'll listen to Russ & Rob.

I'm always hesitant to sign up for things that are easy to sign up for but difficult to get out of. However, ESPN has been OK with cancelling online without having to talk to someone who will try to convince you not to cancel. I think they got their business model right in that $5 a month isn't going to make or break anyone's budget and they are OK with subscribers signing up for football season then cancelling when the season is over. (Not sure about the annual subscription since I only do the monthly thing.) Last year I found the whole process refreshingly simple and hassle free.

A lot of the online TV packages include ESPN+ so I'm not sure if its worth purchasing ESPN independently. My package has ESPN, ESPNU, ESPN3 and ESPN+ included.

The MAC game on ESPN+ this week is Akron at CMU. Akron is not looking good at all.
