Excited for my first OU-Marshall game in Huntington. Interested to know what watering holes are recommended by folks on here since I'll be there all day.

I seem to recall the last time we had a game at Marshall in 2014 there were many complaints in the travel thread about the bad behavior of Marshall fans being obnoxious, instigating fights, etc. I am not sure if this still holds true, but you may want to use some extra caution if traveling or tailgating there as an Ohio fan.

Agree w/Jeff. I have been to 3 games at the Joan and have never had to be concerned. Maybe some nasty looks and snide comments but that was the worst of it.

They're all salt of the earth. Like the ones who were blowing whistles in the stands during the bowl game.

Didn't one of our fans have his car keyed several years back down there?

Total horse manure!

In general the fans there are very friendly. Like with any large group you'll find a few bad apples. I've even seen a few nasty folks in Peden wearing OHIO green, but they are few and far between.

And, Alan, as far as keying goes, the only time I ever had my car keyed was in the parking lot of an Ames store in the State of Delaware. I don't blame all citizens of that state or all Ames store shoppers. Just the perp, whoever he or she might have been.

[Feeling the need to get in a refer to the Late Rebellion, did you know that Delaware was the most northern slave state? Also, it was the only slave state that in 1860 had more free blacks than enslaved blacks, about 70 percent free. In most slave states there were no more than a one or two percent free. I have theorized, but haven't researched, that most of the free blacks were in the Wilmington area, and that the southern two counties had a much higher percentage of enslave blacks. Aren't you glad you asked? ;-)]

This will be our fourth time there and the only time their fans said anything inappropriate was the first time when we bought GA tickets at their ticket window. Unfortunately, those seats were in the middle of their fans. It didn't take me long to figure out that I'd better sit quietly.

They have loads of local fans and lots of children. It's a totally different atmosphere from Peden but there is nothing wrong with that, in fact, it's rather nice to see so many locals.

The only downside to me is the too frequent call for "The Thunderclap" by the PA. It gets a little old...especially if Ohio is on the down side of the score. It's just a spirit/cheer thing they do.

Pretty sure that was DCF in Morgantown. WVU keyed a bunch of Ohio fans cars that day. I had an Ohio magnet on my car. But when I pulled into the parking lot the attendant told me it would be wise to take that off before I went into the game. Glad I did.

As for Marshall, I was reticent to go down there based upon stories I heard from ALL MAC fans. I've been there twice without incident. They used to have a tailgate lot just for opposing fans which was nice. The Cub Scouts run a parking lot close to there and those folks are super nice.

Huntington after dark gets a little spooky in my opinion. If you are staying overnight don't walk to the game from your hotel. Herd fans get pretty lit up and like to encounter Ohio fans after the game.
I think we will play them forever because of low travel costs and stadiums sell out. Best idea would be only play them with early kick offs in daylight
My last game in Huntington I was seated in the Ohio visitors section. A guy at least 25 years younger than me said he wanted to fight. Insulted my wife.
Then they pile on Sprague out of bounds and end his career.

For the record, the only time I've had this happen to me was leaving the UC game last year. A 20-something UC fan saw my OHIO cap and came up to me and tried to start a fight. And, this was after they won. What a total a-hole!

My only visit to Marshall/Huntington involved one of my friends being the victim of countless n-word comments from their fans. They are complete trash.

My wife and I were physically threatened at a basketball game for no reason other then us wearing Ohio gear. Luckily, an older couple who were Marshall fans intervened and the "bullies" left. There is not enough money in the world to make me ever go back there again.
