I read so many comments online about how it was going to be at least 75% WVU fans there and that they bought all of our season tickets. Boy was that overblown, just as I expected.

Hard to tell but I'd say it was at least 60% bobcats. Their fans wearing gold stood out a lot more but we had numbers on them I'm sure of it.
I think they brought about 7,000 fans: About all of the East “horseshoe” by their band (2,000), nearly all of 122-124 (2,500), about half of west horseshoe (1,000), and plenty on the press box stands (1,500). Amazing to see in Peden, but 7,000 of 26,700 is 26%. But people will see what they want to see.

I’m not so sure that there was much respect for us in WVU fandom. Check out their fan site. Complete melt down mode. Much of that appears to come from the Rich Rod haters who remember his exit after his first try there. They also think that it’s inexcusable that a P-4 team would lose to a G-6 school, or that any G-6 player could play for a P-4 team.
That’s funny considering Fred Perry and Cam Vaughn are two of their best players and they played at Jax St last year. WVU fans funny. We apparently had -320% of the crowd, they took so many tickets our band was the marching 10, and the only green in the crowd was because their well water turned their blue & gold green. But somehow with that massive home field advantage they still lost and don’t even see it as a self own. From my experience, there is a big, big, difference between real life WVU fans —super cool with some exception—and Internet WVU fans.
I think you’re right. Theres something about being able to hide in your basement and put whatever you want on the internet without any repercussions.

I also think there is, on the whole, a difference between alumni and others that have a real-life tie to the university, and those that only have a fandom tie to the athletics. We have seen a few comments about a annoying the OSU fan base can be. All teams have annoying fans but in Ohio almost every fan that picks a college to root for as a "free agent" picks OSU. Ohio is probably the largest population state where this is true. Thus the percentage of fans that have no tie to the actual university is possibly the highest out there.

You know, Ohio's last four wins vs "P" teams have come vs Big 12 teams. Kansas in 2016 and 2017, IowaSt in 2023 and WVU this year. The last Ohio win vs a non-B12 "P" team was the 2012 win over Penn St.

This is going off the top of my head, so bear with me. But I'm pretty sure there were 3 plays Saturday where Ohio was flagged for two penalties on a single play. I realized that can and does happen, but 3 times against the same team in one game?

I believe two plays included two separate Ohio linemen getting caught holding with WVU declining one and accepting the other both times. The third instance happened when Jalen Thomeson was guilty of both penalties - horse collar and grabbing the face mask. Am I remembering this correctly? Unusual, no?

Yes. One of the holdings was on the ill-fated missed FG drive, and one early in the 4th quarter IIRC. We also had a play where two players went in motion on a 4th down. I guess that's only one penalty but it took two players to commit it.

Thing is, we didn't play all that great. Those plus some delay of games. We definitely can play better.

What might bode well for us if we reach the MAC title game again - Toledo has the 6th highest average penalty yards per game in the country.

I think how sloppily we have played only makes the results we have had more impressive. STILL taking down a power 4 opponent and dominating them in all phases of the game in week 2, doing whatever we want (including snapping the ball early) on offense in week 1 at a P4 - it isn’t usually how you see a G5 school pull of an upset or near upset. It’s a shame we didn’t get the win at Rutgers because I think we would actually put up a good fight in a CFB round 1 game if we keep improving throughout the season.

I think WVU won this game in OT in spite of Rich Rod and not because of his brilliant coaching. Bringing in that 3rd string QB twice to throw two interceptions was almost coaching malpractice. But, I'm glad that they won because it makes the Bobcats look better.
