Is this true? Did he make this proclamation at the beginning of the search?
I was out at O.U. when they were looking for the new AD.

Everyone I spoke to said it was common knowledge that Nellis wanted to be
able to say he hired the first female AD.

That's what I heard, and it turned out to be correct.

I posted that she had had strong qualifications based on her resume.

But I also said that you don't hire a resume.

I never said or implied that she was the best candidate.

In my opinion she wasn't the best choice for AD and only got the job because
Nellis wanted to be known as the person who hired the first female AD at O.U.
regardless of whether or not one of the other applicants would have been better.

Unfortunately , we'll never know if she was the best choice.
Your preference was Grooms, as you stated at the time. Make the case for his qualifications over Cromer's. Curious to hear it.

Also, in the span of two posts you went from "it's your opinion that. . .Nellis wanted to be known as the person who hired the first female AD. . ." to "Nellis said he wanted to hire a woman."

Funny, rereading my posts I only see where I said he wanted to say he hired the first female AD not that he wanted to hire a woman.

I think as I've pointed out, in my opinion JC wasn't the best choice.

You disagree, which is your right.

There's basically a zero percent chance this is true.

I assure you the President of the University did not voluntarily violate the EEOC at the start of the search. And if he had, rpbobcat would have been railing about DEI way back then.

He didn't mention it until yesterday. He has tried every single possible angle to critique Cromer throughout her tenure. If Nellis had actually said this or signaled in any way, rpbobcat wouldn't have shut up about it.

Instead, he's gonna reply and tell us about some vague sense he had about Nellis. He won't back down from the ridiculous assertion, but he also won't provide a shred of evidence to support it. That's what passes for analysis here these days.
I posted what I was told form people at O.U., when I was there.

Obviously, that's not good enough for you.

In my opinion, Nellis wasn't a good president, which is
why I cut down on my donations.

You'll disagree with me, like you always do.

That's you're right.

I don't know if Ms. Gonzalez was the best choice to replace him.

I thought the gentleman from Marshall looked better, at least on paper.

Anyone who uses DEI hire indicates they hate not only women but any minority. I’m embarrassed you have a degree from the same institution I do. Truly vile behavior from a man living in the Jim Crow era. Good thing “O.U.” has passed you by. . . .
Talk about stereotyping and ad hominem arguments. One can argue for or against the concept of DEI without being a horrible person. And, there are a significant number of prominent African Americans who have come out against DEI, including Thomas Sowell, Horace Cooper, Brandon Brice, Clarence Thomas, Carol Swain, and Coleman Hughes. Are they all trying to take us back to the Jim Crow Era?
Yes, Clarence Thomas is trying to take us back to the Jim Crow Era. Turn off Fox News.

I don't believe it would be 100% correct. You said you heard Nellis wanted to be able to say he hired the first female AD. Can you then find any quotes then following this up where Nellis then championed that he hired the first female AD? If this was his goal, I think he would've been out there touting this great achievement. Just because you heard a rumor (listed behind anonymous sources) that he wanted to hire a female AD and then a female was hired does not mean that she was hired because she was a female. I am amazed by this hearsay logic you are using.

https://www.ohio.edu/news/2019/08/julie-cromer-named-dire...

Here's the press release of her hire back in 2019. The quote from Nellis at the time of her hire was:

“We’re excited to welcome Julie to my leadership team at Ohio University,” said President Nellis. “Her talent, vision, and passion for intercollegiate athletics and the student-athlete experience will only serve to elevate our athletic program and our University. With a keen understanding and focus for ways in which athletics can serve as a front porch for our University, Julie is especially poised to enhance our athletics program, bolster our student-athlete experience, and increase academic engagement, and I am confident that Julie is the right person to lead our Bobcat Athletics family as we move forward.”

He never mentions that she is the first female athletic director for Ohio. He mentions she is the 'right person' and says in a separate part that: 'Cromer stood out from among four finalists who visited campus in early August because of the depth of her experience across the athletics landscape, including day-to-day administration of 19 varsity sports, leading strategic planning efforts, assisting with capital fundraising, and serving as a liaison to campus governance groups and to the Southeastern Conference.'

If he wanted to be able to say he hired the first female AD, why isn't he, you know, saying it? You've accepted that it must've been a DEI hire because you heard a couple of people whispering when you were at OHIO (sounds like strong sourcing) and then you felt validated. However, in no way does it look on paper that she was a DEI hire. She was likely the most qualified of the four finalists and then was chosen. But, you've dug your heels in at this point, so I doubt you're going to change your view.

rpbobcat spent like 7 years looking for any reason at all to criticize Cromer.

He wanted her fired for hiring Albin, he wanted her fired for letting Albin go, he wanted her fired for being on too many committees. He criticized her dozens and dozens of times on this board consistently for her entire tenure here.

And yet not until this week does he mention his "insider" information about how she was a DEI hire and Nellis just wanted to hire a woman.

Complete and utter BS.

Our DEI hire got poached to be the COO at LSU. Did someone reach out and tell them she isn't qualified?

"Cromer will oversee daily operations of the athletic department and will serve as the head administrator for all 21 varsity programs."

Crazy they'd let just anyone lead one of the largest athletic departments in America.

Someone should reach out to Yahoo Sports for a correction as well. "LSU makes major hire to fill key role in the athletic department."

This hasn't been announced yet. I don't know the timing; perhaps it will coincide with Homecoming or the end of the season. Not sure. As for details, I know some broad elements but that's it. I'll wait until the details are made public. All I can say is that it will be a significant enhancement to the football program.

Wrong. There was a shuttle that came to our hotel. We did not take it, but probably should have. We ended up parking an Orthodox Church parking lot for $40.00 and then walking to the stadium. Didn't mind the payment of $40, since it went to the church, but the walk back after dark was a little challenging for my wife who has doesn't see too well after dark.
