Someone needs to start the topic.

We are wasting the best QB in 50 years. The defense couldn't stop anything in the second half.

This is just disappointing.

Perhaps, I am little too old school, but I am sorry that this wasn't an away game, because I would have insisted that the entire defensive side of our team (players, coaches, and all) walk home at the end of the game. Ridiculous.

Time to move forward or accept that this is “as good as it gets”

Actually it’s been that way for years. Nothing has changed except expectations which are unrealistic.

Winning a MAC championship is unrealistic? 🤔🤔🤔

Well, after 15 years, it probably is. Is there a reason to believe it is realistic?

Our corners couldn't shut ME down. And after the catch, they couldn't bring me down.

Can't do that.

JHJ would consider it "hazing" and suspend everybody involved. :-)

It would be difficult to defend Collins at this point, considering that most of the defensive starters played substantially last year.

Found this hyperlink from 2014 listing the 25 longest championship droughts in pro sports.

Less than 5 years later, #s 1 (106+ years!), 7 (54 years) and 15 (46 years) have ended, and #20 (technically an 8-way tie with #15-22, all at a mere 46 years) is looking shaky.

I think we knew there were some big losses on the defensive line but they've been even bigger than anyone expected. There's never pressure on quarterbacks unless there's a blitz and then Ohio exposes itself to other things. I think it's also been a big part of why the Bobcats have been so unable to force turnovers.

Even given that, the defense has to be better than it's been. There are enough experienced players and enough time now for the young defensive linemen that Ohio's defense should be performing better.

It all starts up front! Both sides of the ball. You lose them you lose everyone. Great LB’ers play behind great lines.

This is not the worst defense I've ever seen, but I don't know that I've ever seen poorer tackling. Billy and other football people can say whether they agree. Plus, we don't have anyone creating turnovers...right?

Havoc rating was dead last in the country going into NIU game ... and they did little to create any havoc against them.

They provide little ... if any ... resistance. No QB pressure ... no turnovers ... poor tackling ... poor coverage.

Just all around failure. It's bad.

I was at the game on the sidelines and here is what I noticed. The defense didnt play bad, they just have to hone in on 3rd downs. When we did get the interception, we went 3 and out on offense. Also our WRs have to step it up. If we make some of those catches it extends drives and the defense can rest. What upset me the most is that we have TEs running corner routes from stacked sets. They literally stacked the box....and kept safeties at 12 yards. I'm checking to quick screen to get 5 yards everytime until they come up. Also on the jet sweeps that NIU was doing, my DEs have to go line up in a wide tevhnique to force him to go back in. I like some of the pressure he sent during the Pitt game, but there was no blitz this game. NIU ran 4 plays. Jet sweep gives jet sweep pull, TE flats and slants. And finally, every opponent QB has a new record of passing yards against us. Not happy about that. If the TE is beating us all game....run a TE Bracket with a safety over the top. Or drop a DE into the flats or slant route alley to fool the QB. Changes are needed and I agree with most of you.

You lost me at "the defense didn't play bad." Terrible tackling, dismal performance on third down in the second half. Huge holes for their running backs.

I have friend who I'd call a "semi casual fan." He goes to most home games, but doesn't really follow the team on the road or pay much attention to media coverage between games. He doesn't even know of the existence of BA, other than an occasional reference from me in a conversation. He's clearly never visited the site. Yesterday, he comes up to me and says, "We've got to fire the DC." He then went on to say that on nearly every play he could figure out what we were doing defensively, and he could, therefore, predict what the offense would do. He said there was no imagination and creativity in the defensive play calling. He kept repeating how predicable everything was. This is the first time I can remember him recommending the firing of anybody. To me when a semi-casual fan, who is not a manic-depressive fan like many on this board, is making statements like this, it indicates a real problem. I suspect that this viewpoint probably reflect the attitudes of many of our casual fans. To put it in the vernacular, "the natives are restless!"

Running backs didnt have huge running holes in 2nd half. There were some missed tackles, sure. But that's why they were running jet sweeps with receivers to get to the outside. Our defensive line was not shifting and corners were playing back. Gotta give NIU credit for running the same play we didnt adjust to.

NIU came out in 5 wide double TE on their first drive in 2nd half and the QB runs 80 yards up the middle.

What I was trying to imply is that if the offense would have had more sustaining drives the defense wouldn't have been out on the field that long. NIU played man to man about 80% of the snaps and there were no drags, cross-pick routes, etc. And we ran our TEs on corner routes. They had a 5'7" corner (#23) and we didnt take advantage of his height until the end of the game (middle field post to Hooks).

Personally I wouldn't mind trying a 3-4 because someone is coming even if we only send 4. We have to find a way to get more pressure and for offense....my WRs boys have to step it up. When Hooks gets extra attention over these next several weeks, someone has to step it up and make plays. Who will it be?
