Thank you for that depressing information, bshot.
A+
Don't shoot the messenger boys.

I wasn't excited when I stumbled across that ... but facts are facts.

Solich & Co get another chance to change the narrative of their tenure on Saturday against your defending MAC Champs that will be scratching & clawing trying to keep their MAC West hopes alive.

This has traditionally not been a spot Ohio has excelled in for whatever reason ... but they just haven't.

Flip the script Saturday.

Should be a GREAT atmosphere ... hopefully a sold out, packed homecoming crowd. Real chance to pick up some serious momentum heading into meat of MAC season.
"Flip the Script" - love it! Go Cats!
I'd stay getting a win at Buffalo is a good place to start if we're flippin' scripts. Keep it goin' Saturday!

Anyone come across something really cool to do on homecoming Saturday? Haven’t been back for a while.

Ron Collins called a good first half, but he might have forgot about the second half

Normally when I begin to lose faith in our football prospects, I switch focus to basketball. I’m not sure that will be rewarding this year so let’s hope we can pull this one out.

It's amazing how often it happens, but with a big lead, Collins went into a Prevent (nothing) defense, and let NIU make some big plays late in the first half, giving them confidence for the second half.

It’s a wonder how prevent defense is played so often considering its track record.

Hats off to Northern Illinois and the Ohio Offense. As for the Ohio Defense: here is your participation trophy. Thanks for showing up to the stadium and getting dressed on your own. Perhaps, the Defense can actually work on tackling now and learn what it takes to step up and help their offense out at the end of the game. The Offensive side had a growl today, the Defensive side: well, a simple meow.

Would love to see our DBs focus on just being consistent with tackling and pass coverage and spend less time wagging their fingers and talking trash after seemingly incompletion or tackle (especially those after long gains).

LC knows my thoughts on this but I will repeat it: we simply don’t recruit enough good players AND get them on the field at the same time to win a MACC. This year it is the defense that has No playmakers. The lack of turnovers seems to me to be a major issue. Looks like this may be the worst season in the FS era if it continues like this.

In my opinion, defense is partly a mind game. If you can get into the other team's head, and shake their confidence, it gets them out of their rhythm, and they make mistakes. Once they start getting confidence, they get comfortable, and they look like a whole other team. Ohio was in NIU's head most of the first half, and the QB was hurrying his throws. Once NIU realized that they could move the ball, they settled down, took their time, and made plays. I just don't understand, if a defense is working, and you have the other team second guessing themselves, why you would ever back off and let them get comfortable, especially not right before the half.

As for the quality of players on the defense, it's certainly true that there was no pass rush at all, even on obvious passing downs. The defensive ends did get sacks last year, so the fact that they are getting virtually no pressure on QBs this year makes me think it is a schematic issue, not a player issue. The interior defensive linemen were not good earlier in the year, but they seem to be improving. They were doing a pretty good job for most of the first half. Defensive tackling does seem to be an issue, but I believe that is teachable, so that is on the coaches.

This is mostly the same defense that played well late in the year last year, so I'm reluctant to blame it all on talent. The key losses were Gullet, Croutch, Payne, and Berger. Were they all essential? On the offense is where most of the turnover was, and there you see a lot of young players. Some of those are stepping up, particularly Allison and Hooks.

Quick thoughts as I wind down from unpacking ANOTHER homecoming tailgate loss.

Geez.

That was just pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

Offense can't put together a 3rd quarter drive to maybe stem the tide while the defense couldn't stop a goddamn nosebleed.

If you are an apologist for the defense (as some on here have been) ... you need to really get a reality check.

This defense is atrocious. No ability to tackle ... no ability to actually defend a pass ... no ability to put together a pass rush ... no ability to slow the run up the middle WHEN YOU KNOW IT'S COMING ... no ability to force turnovers (because when they do they immediately give it right back) I've posted multiple times the havoc rating of this defense .... THE WORST IN THE COUNTRY! Just awful.

You CANNOT in your non-biased opinion think this team will win the East. You really think they can beat Kent next week with that defense? NO WAY they're winning on the road at Ball with that defense. WMU will bulldoze that defense. Miami is a live dog for sure. And after today ... not even sure BG is a win! And by the time they get to Akron ... they might throw in the towel and just quit. Don't be surprised ... we've seen it in years past with this program.

Wildly disappointing. NIU was dead man walking late 1H and Ohio let them off the ropes. Previous posts said it ... defense let up ... they got confident.

2 punts the entire game?!?!? 5 straight scoring drives in the 2H. C'mon. There is nothing anyone can say to sugarcoat that.

This is turning sideways pretty fast ... 2-4 could be 4-8 very easily.

Defense has to find a pulse. They cannot continue to be this bad.

Again ... wildly disappointing

I agree but on offense I am sad that Frank is doing what he always does in that he has no Tuggle against NIU but stays with Ross. Then he keeps going with Odom over Hooks.

Eff it. I’m out of hope for a MACC for Solich. Glad the program has improved, but there is another level that can be attained, but not with the current staff, apparently. If they read this message board may my lack of belief fuel their motivation to prove me wrong. Someday before we all die we win in Detroit. I’ll be there when it happens a and will buy a round at the bar!

Go Bobcats.

Homecoming 4th quarter MACTION--both offenses wide open.

Worst play was after 3 and out a 5 yard penalty occurs and then ALL, I repeat ALL 10 Bobcats
forget to block and it appeared 5 different NIU guys could have blocked that punt.

Go for it on 4th and 2 from inside our own 30 on the first drive of the game. Hilarious.
