The MAC is pretty bad this year but the thought of this team even making it to Detroit looks pretty laughable right now. Shoddy on defense and utterly underwhelming on offense, Ohio looks very overrated. The MAC East is pretty terrible. Unfortunately, Ohio looks like it fits right in.

Very, very pathetic. This one really hurts.

We're going to struggle to win 6 games this year.

Utterly depressing.

5 turnovers gave this one away. Hooks seemed to look good in the second half. Its time to start passing the ball as a first option.

Not just better athletes! The lack of sound fundamentals us on the coaches. The regression is on the coaches. They obviously don't know how to correct it.

Maybe we'll have one of those coming together moments where a player calls a team meeting and things turn around.

This is getting old! No wonder folks stay home to watch the Buckeyes.

The turnover on the punt return gifting them seven points buried us.

Absolutely no level of football where a mistake like that on special teams is acceptable. And then Buckner was out there for a couple more returns, if I remember correctly.

Not to mention DL Knock failing to call a fair catch and getting BLASTED.

I mean, who is coaching these guys on returns? Just wave your hand, catch the ball, and live to fight another day 9 times out of 10.

I was worried about this game and I was right. Outplayed in every aspect of the game. This Ohio squad is going nowhere fast.

I'm glad that I didn't participate in the preseason pick 'em because right now I can't foresee anything better than a 5-7 finish.

What a drop off in talent between this year and last! Injuries don't help but bone-headed plays and multiple turnovers hurt even more.

When does women's basketball start?

Well the same guy that has coached them for a long time. Ohio’s special teams are rated among the best in the nation, sure didn’t show it today.

You say that now but I guarantee everyone will be looking up at Ohio in the standings at the end of the regular season. Mark my words.

The last time Ohio lost to all three OOC 1A teams on its schedule was 2008. The losses were at Wyoming by one, at O$U by 12 and at Northwestern by 8. The team finished 4-8, 3-5 in the MAC.

It's easy to have a negative attitude after three losses but most computer ranking systems still show Ohio as the best team in the MAC East, even having performed as poorly as it has. Yes, it says a lot about how bad the MAC is but I don't think some people realize how good the last three opponents are. They've made a lot of other teams look bad. Louisiana came close to beating Mississippi State. Pitt just knocked off UCF. Marshall nearly knocked off Boise State. They're all probably better than any team in the MAC.

Agree UpSan as the last three teams the Bobcats have played are good.

While that's true, it's irrelevant. Ohio has a lot of work to do, and they have a bye week to do it. The 0-3 start against I-A teams is not a good start, but won't be their legacy. When we think back to 2008, do we remember the 0-3 against OOC competition, or do we remember the 3-5 against the MAC? This team's legacy will be based on what they do the rest of the way. What will it be?

Definitely so. Not saying there isn't a lot of work to do. Just saying the problems are a lot clearer because of having played good teams. It could in the long run be the best thing for Ohio.

Louisiana's running game reminded me a lot of ours last year. Their O line plus stable of strong experienced talent in the backfield.

As others have said, we clearly underestimated the impact of our losses after last year. New D Coordinator, and isn't this our 3rd O-line coach in as many years? Two top receivers, two top tailbacks, part of our O line (but honestly we had enough coming back I thought they wouldn't miss a beat - this has been the most disappointing thing so far).

I do expect that we will get better as the season goes on, but we don't get any breaks with the start of the conference season. We could be out of this thing before we get our feet under us.

I think it was more that on offense, everyone recognized the losses, but expected Rourke to carry the team. Unfortunately, he seems to be pressing, and I think he needs to relax and play his game. It's a team game, and the QB is just one position out of eleven on offense.

On defense, most of the defense is back. The losses were Nelson, Croutch, Gullett and the defensive tackles, Payne and Berger, which isn't any more or less than most years. Also, the backups behind all five of those played a lot last year, so people expected the defense to pick up where they left off at the end of last year. Unfortunately, they are playing like they did at the start of 2018 instead.

We'll find out soon enough if the team can regroup, and make a run for the MACC. It all starts at Buffalo, who has has some good games, and some bad ones, and who no doubt wants revenge for last year.

The defense struggled the first four games of the season last year with Howard, Virginia, UC and UMASS giving up 32, 45, 34 and 42 points. After those four games the Bobcats D played better and the team ended up with nine wins. Hoping for the same thing this season.

I hope we have some new faces on defense that will step up. We need to be open about rebuilding our defense if we can't have success with the guys who have been on the field for the first 4 games. If we have sure tacklers and physical types on the roster ,now is the time to move them front and center.

Yeah, because the coaches never evaluate talent and put the best out on the field.

OK I will try and say it a different way. In my opinion we have some guys on our defense who are not very physical, not athletic and were mauled by Pitt, Marshall and Louisiana.Plus we are small at some positions.
So.. if we have players who are RS-FR or RS-Sophs that are from our latest recruiting classes then lets give them a shot.

Your opinion is just as rediculous the second time around. Which of those young players who don’t know the defense yet do you think the coaches should throw in there and give em a shot?
Why aren’t you coaching??

I think it's a variation of the "start-forever" view we've seen from others, which conveniently ignores that young players who prove their worth, in fact, do move ahead of older players. Examples on this year's team include Shane Hooks and Jerome Buckner. Last year it was Amos Ogun-Semore. The year before that it was Marlin Brooks, Jamal Hudson, Hagan Meservy, and Brett Kittrell. The fact is that most Freshmen take awhile to learn the offense/defense, and most are physically not ready to step in and play. The ones that are ready, and show they can play, do play.

Well that was much more diplomatic than my response...

I must agree Sam with your assessment regarding LC's diplomacy. My feelings are not easily hurt.
If we should lose a few more games are you sticking with this group on defense? AS a fan it hurts to see them get tossed around like rag dolls.
