Pretty sure that if the Bobcats land in a Bowl game people will be able to watch both the Bobcats and the Bayou Bengals without conflict of date or time.

I did, not because I'm against Ohio getting a bowl game. Obviously if they do, I'll be watching. But, I am thoroughly against the current bowl system that rewards a 6-6 season with a bowl game. I just think it's rewarding mediocrity. No need to argue the why's, or why someone disagrees.

Joey B, on the other hand, is a great story in sports this fall. I'll be watching him no matter what in a few weeks.

True. And that wasn't meant to be a cut on Ohio, it was more directed at the bloated number of crummy bowl games that are essentially glorified exhibitions anyway. Obviously the major bowls and playoffs carry a ton of weight. But many of these other bowl games are simply ridiculous. They're played in front of may empty seats and a lot of players aren't even excited or interested in playing in them. I care more about all the regular season games involving FBS opponent than I do the bowl games Ohio ends up in.

I'm glad I have company on the Burrow selection in this poll. It truly is an exciting story. If I knew how to post it, I have a picture of a betting ticket from Binions that a friend took on June 4th when he bet Joe would win the Heisman. Odds that day 150 to 1. Great story.

If you don't like football and don't want to watch the Bobcats in a bowl game, DON'T Watch. As I have said many times before, there are plenty of fans that enjoy watching Ohio play in whatever sport and whoever the competition may be. Fans that love basketball don't complain when Heidelberg, Rio Grande, Capital, Northwest Ohio and Wilbenforce are on the Cats schedule. I am certain that if Ohio plays in the CIT, CBI or whatever March post season tourney that is not the NCAA, many Bobcat fans will enjoy watching them play another game. This university is not an ACC, SEC, Big Ten or Big 12 institution reaping millions of dollars from TV contracts. If these athletes can get another opportunity to play and practice after the regular season, then good for them.

I don’t think anyone’s saying they don’t want to watch or won’t watch Ohio play in a bowl game. They’ve said they will. I even find myself wanting Ohio to be selected for a bowl game more than I thought I would. I’m a bowlaholic at heart. And you can bet I’ll watch every second wearing Ohio gear from head to toe if Ohio’s so fortunate enough to be selected.

The issue is whether Ohio’s deserving of a bowl game. If we’re honest with ourselves, we’d have to say no. Ohio Country’s right; Ohio doesn’t deserve to be in one. Ohio doesn’t have a winning record. It’s literally average.

P..S. And you don’t think any of the basketball fans that love hoops don’t complain about Ohio scheduling DIII teams? As I recall, people were pitching up a storm last year because Saul scheduled Rio Grande and Wilberforce; it was if the guy committed a capital offense.

I will be watching as I watch most of the bowls. As a football fan it is a great time. I get to see a lot of teams that are not always on my tv and some pretty cool match ups too. I will always watch my Bobcats on tv no matter the sport. This time to me is like March Madness to a basketball fan.

What a great opportunity for these kids, if, in fact, chosen to participate in a bowl game. They get to have a decent meal or two, receive some bowl related swag, and they get to play one more game as a team, which comes with even more lasting memories for each of them. This team has disappointed themselves more than anybody else, but they never gave up, and they thus finished strong.

The idea that some on this board would not bother to watch the Bobcats in a bowl game is silly. Stop it! Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat. Besides, if Championship football is your only priority, just drive North until you reach Columbus. I have heard rumors that there is a team up there that is Nationally ranked.

If Saul were still the coach, I guarantee you they would. The only reason no one's complaining this year is two-fold-Boals is in his coaching honeymoon with the fans and his young team has so far exceeded expectations (which is great to see). If there are a bunch of DII or III teams on the schedule in 3 years, yes people will definitely complain about it.

But I digress. Yes I definitely want to see Ohio in a bowl game and I'll watch every minute of it . Do I think they "deserve" to be in one? No, they lost as many games as they won.

I would say no, even though I hate how it hurts the players for extra practice and for the experience. But I'm not for teams that regularly go bowling to go when they are 6-6. And I hate to say it but with the struggle Athletics has on campus I can't see the money needed to spend for the trip worth the aggravation it will cause.

So do we keep our guys home when there are so many other teams that are going to a bowl? Is the pub worth anything? Doesn’t make any sense not to go unless the team was really down at the end of the year or the coach was fired, or something else very negative. Just saying.

It's too good of a story not to want to watch it continue to unfold into the BCS+. I'd love to see him be National Champ instead of OSU. That would be phenomenal.

It's uninformed to say basketball loving fans don't get upset when Ohio plays multiple games vs non D1 opponents.

One is fine ... as an exhibition. Multiple is worthless.

I don't think many Bobcat fans will complain about the wins vs Heidelberg and Rio this season if that equates to them getting 20 wins in Boals first season. Or if Boals can finish over .500 and get invited to the CBI or CIT and play a few extra games. Playing a few extra games will only help this young team in the future.

Continuing digression from the topic at hand (I love thread drift!):

Bobcat1996, I'd counter your comment by pointing out that it's probably unlikely that those non-D1 wins are part of the criteria the CIT/CBI/NIT committees look at for selection. To that end, I would hope no one would be excited about 2-3 wins were over inferior non-D1 opponents. Of course a fair counter to that is the tough games they've played on neutral and road sites. I would suspect that in the future, there will be fewer of those games.

I still think the measuring stick for this team, and most Ohio hoops teams, is what they do in January, February, and March. Only twice that I can think of in the last 25 years has there been an Ohio hoops team worthy of at-large discussion.
