If the Cats hadn't fumbled a couple of times, this would be rout in the middle of the first quarter. I feel bad for Nelson, he isn't that bad of a QB based on what I've seen in the past. The transition away from the Bowden model is painful to watch.

Perhaps the next time Coach Terry Bowden is asked about what he thinks of the current state of the Zips, he might break into song singing Toby Keith's, "How Do You Like Me Now!"

Nelson had one great game--too bad it had to be against the Bobcats to knock us out of contention two years ago. He really hasn't done much since--the Akron fans I talked to were not very high on him.

Akron's offensive line is horrible.

That's about right. I doubt that Akron had more than a half-dozen first downs.

My algorithm's calculation of the worst ever strength of records in FBS/1A history. Akron played in the MAC East and gave UMass its only win of the year OOC.

In 2013 Miami is the worst in the nation and; six years later, they win the MAC east. With a potential 2 game lead over the tied for seconds Bulls and Bobcats, beating both, one on it's home field to a sellout televised crowd. Draw your own conclusions to that turnaround.

In 1994, was OHIO at least ranked the top party school offering us some consolation?

I don't know about party rankings but we did have a basketball team that won the Preseason NIT and was ranked around #12 right around the same time that season ended.

Looking at that list the bottom of the MAC had really cornered the market on playing bad football at the highest division level in the late 80's and early to mid 90's. I don't know if the MAC's reputation has even lived that down yet.

One reason why I think Chuck Martin will be off to a "P" school before year's end.

Not only is Akron really bad, their football team is pretty awful, too. ;)

I don’t know if Martin is getting that job, but he sure knows how to win close games. They are really bad offensively, but it gets the job done. I don’t think the last 2 games are going to help his resume any.
