Akron has one of the worse offenses in the country at 11 points and 257 yards per game. If our defense can’t stop these guys, we need to change some things over the winter. Anyway, will we be ready to play? Who knows?

Yes, the Akron who almost beat Miami in Oxford last week. Keep telling yourself how bad these teams are. Hope you are not disappointed come Tuesday. It is already very obvious we need to change some things on the defensive side of the ball. It won’t take Akron to make that conclusion.

Obviously Akron is not a good football team. However, I suspect they feel very strongly about not wanting to go 0-12. I expect that they will try to give us a good scrap.

If, perhaps, our defense gets embarrassed by Akron, and Mark Dantonio gets fired by Michigan State, is there any possibility that Dantonio, a former graduate assistant at Ohio, decides to consider working as a Defensive coordinator under Solich as the next head coach in waiting at Ohio? Crazy idea, I know, especially when you consider the fact that Ohio is likely to give Akron the beat down of the Century in the hope of snagging a last remaining bowl game. Does anyone else have any other ridiculous scenarios that could come out of a ball game, at least on paper, that looks like a one sided affair at best in favor of Ohio?

How embarrassing is it that we are on espn plus and not an ESPN network. That shows how far we have fallen. But those of you who think we are fine keep talking about a bowl game at 6-6. Make sure to mention yet again how Akron, Kent etc wish they were 6-6.

I imagine last week gave Akron a bit of confidence. The 17 pts they put up against Fiami were the second most they've scored in a MAC game this year. The 20 they gave up were the fewest they've allowed in a MAC game. I'm sure their coaches are emphasizing how close they played the team that'll be in the MACCG. If we get off to our usual slow start it could be a tough night. Score early and often. Shut 'em down. Go Cats!

Let’s see, Akron is rated the 210 best college football team in the US by Sagarin, second worse in the FBS, so it’s just not me saying they’re bad.
Do you think almost beating Miami makes Akron a good team? They are a really bad team, just look at the stats and scores.
I will be disappointed if we don’t beat these guys by 21 points.
I wish you were right about the defense, but I’m just saying that it would be the nail in the coffin if we can’t even stop Akron.

I don't think that we could pay him enough for that. He would just take a DC job at a P5 school or another G5 school head coach job. Now, if Solich retires and Dantonio gets fired in the same year then maybe he would consider taking the Ohio job.

Being that Akron is worse than BG and we were 20.5 favorites I would expect the spread would be 30 or so.
Yes like someone else stated, we need to get off to a fast start so as not to give Akron any idea that they have a chance.

During our game, an errant punt startles a late-migrating goose out of the rafters in the Tower. This goose decides to migrate to the Mexican Pacific coast. En route, it passes through Salt Lake City. While passing through, it poops.

Meanwhile, the Utes and the Buffalos’ are locked in a surprisingly close game. Late in the fourth quarter, Utah has the ball, up 6, 3 minutes to go. Colorado has all 3 timeouts left. The Utes have driven down the field, to the Utah 25. They’re looking to score a TD, or at least a FG, to put the game out of reach. 1st and 10, Huntley signals for the snap. At that same moment, just as the ball is snapped, he gets a face full of goose s***, right to the eyes. He misses the snap, Colorado's fast thinking blitzer picks it up and returns it 65 yards to the Utah 12. 8 plays later, Colorado scores a TD as the clock expires. They make the PAT and win the game.

This surprise turn of events puts USC in the PAC12 title game. A batch of bad oysters served at the pregame meal results in Oregon’s 3rd strong playing the entirety of the PAC12 championship game, ending in a surprise USC victory.

As a result, USC’s attempts to fire Clay Helton are foiled (USC beats a Minnesota team that is just happy to be in its first Rose Bowl in 58 years).

His plans for 202 having fallen through, Urban Meyer accepts the Miami job when it’s offered to him (David Sayler didn’t mean to offer it to him, but this is what happens when you try to drunkenly use Alexa to order delivery groceries from Meyers Grocery Stores. The next morning, Sayler was to embarrassed to rescind the offer, so Martin had to go.

Incensed that that “pompous wanna be domer thinks he can pull this crap”, Urban’s arch nemesis Bob Stoops offers his services (for free!!) to Cromer after Frank retires, naming Lane Kiffen as his defensive coordinator. He did this to make a point, though no one was quite sure what the point was.

On the other hand, if we had wrapped up the East so that the Akron game would be meaningless, WMU-NIU would still be on ESPNU. WMU can win the West by beating NIU Tuesday night, so it's more attractive than any game that doesn't have an effect on who plays in the MACCG. And being on ESPNU is slightly above being on ESPN+. The U isn't available on some cable and satellite systems' basic package and not all subscribers are willing to pay for it.

I know Coach Dantonio is an old school guy who loves the game. However, I don't think he loves it that much that he would go from making almost $4.5 million as a head coach to a couple of hundred thousand as an assistant in a non-Power 5 conference school. If I were a betting man, I would surmise that if he gets let go, his family would gently persuade him to spend more time at whatever beach house he rents/owns.

Some years ago I met Dick Vitale at an event and he started rattling off all the Big 10 coaches (football and basketball) and where they lived in reference to his home in Sarasota. I told him I was an Ohio grad and he naturally segued into Danny Nee, Jim Larranaga etc. He laughed and said the MAC coaches all have houses down here too, just not as the Big 10 coaches. My guess is Mark Dantonio won't be seen on any Tuesday night MAC telecast anytime soon.

Thank God we are not in the same bind as Akron, one error and miscalculation after another. I am sure it all made sense at the time. A board member of another MAC school told me that I should be grateful being an Ohio grad. He told me if I only knew the obstacles places like Akron are up against. He smiled and said, "Ohio and your rival Miami have no idea how good they have it."

Out of curiosity, does anyone know why this game time was changed from 7pm to 6pm?

Slightly above? For the casual fan and the habitual "flipper", the U is miles above + because it's part of their cable package as opposed to something you have to buy extra. Regardless, more people attended the Akron City Series championships than will be in the house on Exchange Street Tuesday night.

I hope Solich keeps this information from our players. They need to go into this game thinking it's a toss up and they they need to play their best ball to win. Otherwise this could be a BG over Toledo, a Citadel over Georgia Tech, or an Illinois over Wisconsin. The college football landscape is littered with heavy favorites coming out on the losing end if they are not prepared physically and mentally going into the game.

We're probably not going to get the big passing plays against Akron like we had against BG. In conference games, Akron is second to Fiami in the MAC in pass defense. Rushing is another story: 218 yds and almost 3 TDs a game. We need to grind it out and hang onto the ball. Akron is still worst in 1A in turnover margin but our five takeaways at BG jumped us from the 120s to 92 this past week.

Easy - just take away their phones, don't let them talk to anyone outside the team, and don't let them know that statistically Akron is one of the worst teams in the nation
