I'm happy for Joe, Jimmy and their family. I'm happy for the citizens of Athens and SEO for all the publicity related to the region and the donations that are pouring in due to this feel good story. I also can't stop thinking about the chain of events related to Joe's transfer to LSU:

1. Joe is named the starter in 2018, which heightens his profile and professional prospects, and is now on the national radar.
2. Jimmy becomes a national story on broadcasts and for journalists through the season. Clearly he now has distractions he hadn't previously. He's interviewing on broadcasts, taking non OHIO FB related interviews for publications, etc.
3. A very strong OHIO defense closing 2017 starts extremely slowly in '18, and a first half defensive meltdown at an offensively inept fiami costs OHIO a shot at a MACC appearance.
4. Jimmy goes on hiatus to be able to be with Joe all season.
5. Ron Collins takes over and the defense struggles, clearly a weak link and once again playing a big part in another lost opportunity.

So I'm not holding anyone's decisions against them, and I'm happy for everyone that's really happy and feeling good right now, but this is also a fair and intriguing series of events to speculate. If Joe rides the pine for two more years, does OHIO win a MACC, or two?

I see what you’re saying D.A. but I’m not sure I accept the premise. I blame Ohio itself more than anything else. And to be honest, Ohio’s defense wasn’t particularly strong to end 2017. In Ohio’s final 2 regular season games, Ohio allowed 37 points to Akron and 31 to Buffalo, both losses. In fact, as I recall, some posters weren’t particularly thrilled with Coach Burrows when the 2017 regular season ended.

Poll, answer 1 for GTFO, or 2 You’ve got to be kidding

Is the poll at the top of this thread the silliest thing in The 20+ years of Bobcat message boards, all the way back to the TCom days.

In all due respect I can't connect the dots with your premise and the Joe Burrow transfer.
My personal view is the we had a talent deficit on our defense this year. I won't name any players but some of the guys on our defense this season were not D1 MAC level.

BTC..you are as dependable as the sun rising in the east, as constant as an atomic clock. Invariably, once a year you have precisely such an over the top reply to one of my posts, even if it is clearly intended to incite you in particular (as this thread was): you simply cannot help yourself and you delight me with your vitriol and attempts at condescension.

Despite all my qualifiers and statements about happiness over the Burrow's success, decision making and the windfall of good fortune extending from Joe's speech, you just can't help but go off the rails.

And as ridiculous as you feel the premise in the poll may be, at this point at least half the respondents feel there is a possibility that the question posited could have impacted the Cat's performance in '18/19. So clearly you aren't reading this forum as much as is evident if you feel it is the most extreme and ignorant notion to pose. The drivel is boundless here.

I for one don't know if you can make this connection of the dots, as ytown states, and I voted in the possibly category. How important is it to a program if it loses its associate head coach after fourteen years? When the chain of events above leads to hundreds of thousands contributed to benefit the folks of SEO, is a MACC really that important in the grand scheme of things?

But shine on you crazy diamond, and keep polishing those sacred cows. You provided me the holiday gift I was seeking, so thanks for that. ;-)

I would be curious as to the efficiency of the Ohio Defense in 2018 for games for Ohio when they played in a different time slot from LSU vs. Games that overlapped with LSU when Jimmy was watching LSU on a I-Pad he tried to hide under his opponent’s tendencies chart.

If Burrow would have stayed at OSU would have OHIO been in a New Years 6 Bowl. Is that better DA? May as well shoot for the stars.

Got to admit in this Hatfield's and McCoy's feud, this is pretty funny.

So now we're compiling polls to essentially cast blame on players who never even played at Ohio for Ohio's downfalls??? Wow.....SMH....

During the 2018 season someone (don't remember who) posted an analysis that showed that very thing. Ohio's defense performed "less well" when LSU was playing at the same time. Could have just been an interesting coincidence, but if he really had an iPad under the chart, it could explain a lot! ;-)

Like Billy said, this may be the dumbest thread ever created.

The Butterfly Effect is an interesting excuse for why Ohio hasn't won a MAC championship for the last two seasons. Didn't see this one coming. :)

Ohio lost because Ohio lost. End of story.

When LSU beats Ohio State for the Natty.....then you can post this. That's an indirect scenario.

I was concerned in 2018 that Ohio wasn't getting full attention from Jim Burrow.

But with Burrow at DC, we crapped our pants in every previous MACC appearance.

Burrow left, and we hired a dud.

So it's probable, but not provable.

Really? I would say the opposite. Other than CMU in 2006 (who was just way better than we were), the D has held up pretty well in title games. Especially in 2016 when we handed WMU the ball several times in our territory the first half and still held them to FGs. That was also one of the worst offensive teams of the FS era. They couldn't get out of their own way. We have NEVER shown up offensively in the MAC title game. Even that first half against NIU was an illusion boosted by turnovers and trick plays and completely overshadowed by the ineptness in the 2nd half.
