It doesn't matter who we have back...we do this every year. As long as the vanilla coaching staff is back WE WILL NOT COMPETE FOR A MAC TITLE!!!
How do you even make a statement like that when Ohio actually DOES compete for one year in and year out??? Look at the last decade alone, where Ohio was in Detroit for nearly half of those years and was in the upper half of the standings in all of those years. You’ve never seen anything like what BG and Akron are doing right now from Ohio, and further, no one from the East has been to Detroit more than Ohio has in that time. What’s more, NIU may be the only team from the entire MAC to advance to Detroit more than Ohio in that span. Ohio is always in the race and often in the game to decide the title. Ohio is the epitome of a team competing for a MAC title.
Ummmm ... not sure what you're looking at?
Last ten years ... MAC title game appearances for East
BG 3
Ohio 2
Miami 2
Akron 1
Kent 1
Buffalo 1
That's not dominant as you portrayed.
20% of the time the last decade Ohio has been in the game to decide the title. That's not great.
But yes ... Ohio does not have the valleys that Miami, Kent, Akron and BG have seen in the last decade .... but they haven't exactly been living the high life dominating the worst division in football.
They're good enough to consistently finish in the top half of the worst division in college football.
Yeah.
Let's celebrate.
Let me rephrase it. From 2006-2016 Ohio was in the MACC 4 times. From 2006 until present day (2019), Ohio's 4 appearances are more than any other team in the entire MAC aside from NIU (CMU would tie OU if they get to Detroit this year).
Most MACC appearances since 2006 (West opponent for 2019 is TBA):
NIU - 7
OU - 4
BG - 3
MU - 3
CMU - 3
UB - 2
UT - 1
WMU - 1
BSU - 1
KSU - 1
UA -1
EMU - 0
On top of that, even in years that Ohio doesn't get to Detroit, the Bobcats are always in contention for the MACC. During that span Ohio has finished 1st or 2nd in 10 out of those 14 seasons and has never finished as low as 5th or 6th place. In fact, since 2009 Ohio has never finished in the bottom half of the division and what's more, since 2014 has only finished in first or second.
Ohio's MAC East Finishes since 2006:
First - 4 times
Second - 6 times
Third - 2 times
Fourth - 2 times
Fifth - 0 times
Sixth - 0 times
So for the past decade and a half, Ohio has proven year-in and year-out to be a contender for the MACC, whether anyone likes the fact or not.
