I just received and responded to an Ohio Athletics email regarding a survey focused on the football program. I appreciate athletic dept. seeking input from we Bobcat fans. I truly hope they take action on any common themes in the responses.

Got mine too but I don't think they have any say on many of the issues - start times and days we play. Bobcatattack was missing as a source of information for news about OU football. It's my number one source.

Athletic departments see fan sites with message boards as the enemy. They aren't going to recommend that people go there.

The game time question should have also been rephrased to include days of the week. There are two problems; one is mid week games and the second is not playing night games early in the season when its 90 degrees out. The average person is going to fill out the survey and say I want 3:30 Saturday start times instead of asking for later start times earlier in the season.

And that's like burying your head in the proverbial sand especially if you monitor a site like this one is and realize that it's not a land of wackos which this one isn't.

Was it the last time Marshall was in Athens? That was a tremendously fun Saturday!

I took his point to be that he felt differently about early season night games on a hot summer Saturday than he did about a late season night game on a cold weeknight.

I didn’t take his point any “way” other than I do not remember the last time we’ve had an early season night game. I knew it had to be over 2 years.

Pure speculation but perhaps the continued decline in attendance has some relationship to the lack of an opening weekend or or early weekend night game. I was never a fan of those games because of the extra work it put on us to host a Green and White tailgate for 750 or more people but that's not the point. People are creatures of habit and students are no different. Home game first weekend back - you go and if you have a good time, you come back. 7:00 start time and you "tailgate" somewhere, catch the band, head to a house party or uptown or maybe watch the whole game and then do those things, and you've had a good night. When it comes to scheduling the start time for our first home game of 2020, I'd certainly take a long hard look at a night game.

And speaking of the first game, who do we play before Boston College?

I specifically stated in mine that later start times in September are something I'd like to see. 2pm kick on Labor day weekend is nuts if there's no TV dictating it.

I like your line of thinking here on not having a home game week 1, and not having a night game.

I believe the UConn game was in 2009. They did a $5 ticket promotion played it at night and that was the game that started kicking off larger crowds in Peden. From what I remember reading a few families complained about the 7pm start times interfering with bedtime for their kids so that was the rationale behind cancelling them. Those same families today are now bored with Peden and not buying family packs. 90% would rather have a night game early in the season. Heat is one reason. A second reason is it allows more time to get to the stadium which is a factor for those driving into Columbus. A third reason is the students who are looking to kick off their night with a game before the parties start. When something works, don't fix it as the old saying goes.
