And they wonder why so many people feel the way they do about them.

I particularly like this line from the article - "there can be no doubt that when the vast majority of people see a Block 'O,' they associate it with Ohio State and its Blcok O Marks."

Watching the 1978 Gator Bowl on ESPN - never gets old. Maybe OSU should trademark "The Punch"

I am under the impression that we, Ohio University, has the rights to the O, which was why OSU came up with The Ohio State.
Am I wrong?

In the OU-OSU settlement, OU retained its registered trademark of OHIO on its licensed apparrel and merchandise. The settlement has OSU agreeing to discontinue using OHIO on any athletic and cheerleader uniforms.

Perhaps some retired Bobcat lawyer should file against the same organization the Buckeyes go after. Then perhaps the judge seeing two different "O"s will see the lunacy of the claim and throw out both. That way we could be a thorn in the side of big sister and stand with every formal noun that has an "O" at the start of its name.

He was fired then (as he should have been) and would certainly be fired today. The same day, not the day after. Funny watching the game, the announcers had no idea what had happened. Today it would be caught by 10 cameras and a sideline reporter. And you are right, it was not the only instance he punched a player - just the first time he punched an opposing player. Can't think of another time a coach assaulted an opposing player. So Crazy Woody appears to have that honor all to himself.

I seem to remember it being a night game, so they might have waited until the next morning before making the official decision.

The "The" was added in 1914, after the General Assembly balked at renaming them the "University of Ohio." It was a consolation prize. That's why I get a kick out of it every time someone calls us the University of Ohio, the name A&M wanted, but were rebuffed on, for obvious reasons. I found out about this when I was working on my master's at the Big Farm and had a lazy afternoon looking through the archives at the OSU library.

Hayes did not shake hands with Clemson coach postgame, he did not show up at post game presser and originally would not step down voluntarily. "You have to fire me". What is that old saying about you learn a lot about a person when they are down and having problems? His behavior was as deplorable and an embarrassment to every Ohioan Can't believe there is a life size statue of this madman outside the athletic complex.

Not to defend Woody's actions in the least, but I have a good friend in Columbus, who is close to the Hayes family, who told me years ago that he thought that that interception was done on purpose. I thought my friend was crazy when he first mentioned this theory, and told him so. However, as the years roll on and more and more comes out about the gambling addiction of Art Schlichter, I've come to believe that this was a distinct possibility. For the record, he is once again back in jail, this time for defrauding folks out of millions of dollars to feed his gambling habit.

Kinda like punching the victim of a mugging because you are upset your friend mugged them? I'd give more credence to the tale if he had punched Schlichter.

How was anyone to know at that time that Schlichter was suffering from an extreme gambling addiction? I doubt that Woody had a clue, otherwise he might have punched his QB. Note that I didn't say I knew this now to be a fact; I simply said that this theory which I originally considered total wackoville, I now think can't be dismissed out of hand.
