I atteneded two Michigan games this year (MSU and Indiana) and they seemed to want to play Ohio. At the fans continually chanted "Beat Ohio".

Won't be for a while.

Already have FCS on schedule next 6 years

They won't start playing five game home schedules soon, obviously, but the decision to start scheduling that way could be made any time the AD and President deem it to be best for the University.

Other than $$$, is there another reason Ohio State is able to get 7 home games every year?

OSU isn't the only school scheduling seven or more home games yearly. Clemson, Va. Tech, Penn St., Michigan and ND all had seven home games this season. I am certain there are plenty of others. There are some seasons like in 2022 where OSU has eight home games scheduled. The power five schools rake in the $$$ with home games.

It may end up being more a forced reality in these times of deep budget cuts and a widening gap in D 1 than a "legitmate option." We'll see what happens when the second semester begins and if there is any traction with the protests of faculty and students.
It may be the reason why we aren't hearing about a facility plan because athletics is intentionally trying to lay low. For instance nobody on this board knew the Hardwood House was coming until the ribbon cutting. As to the gap its always been there except now with the stadiums increasingly empty its about the TV money.

The teams with the highest revenue from home games can afford to buy a game or two a year, so they will have 7, perhaps occasionally 8 home games. Teams with less revenue from home games are willing to accept the paydays, so they will naturally have 5 homes games. To get around that, they often will buy a game of their own, from an FCS team, to get back to six home games. Teams can also end up short in home games if they schedule 2:1 deals, in which case they end up not only short home games, but short revenue, as they miss the big payday.

This is not a new problem. Look at some schedules from the past:
1970 3 home games, 6 road games
1979 4 home games, 7 road games
1984 4 home games, 7 road games
1988 4 home games, 7 road games
1989 4 home games, 7 road games
1996 4 home games, 8 road games
2006 5 home games, 7 road games
