It's a shame they only looked at Saturday games. We had some very good weeknight games in November.

"Utilizing our play-by-play grades of every player on every play of every game, our All-MAC Team takes into account every player's actions on the field on Saturdays while also utilizing our wealth of signature statistics to determine the list."

These are kinda surprising. I'm not sure Crum was a bad choice for first team. I'd like to see the thought process around Hagan. Motley's inclusion is surprising. I give them props for selecting Luehrman.

I'm pretty sure they include all games. I think they just made a general statement about college football games being on Saturdays, which obviously is not true of the MAC and was something they did not consider in making that statement.

Most selections are based on opinion, and perhaps votes. PFF is a more mechanical selection. They grade every play, every week, and selections are based on each player's total score for the year. Their criteria is not necessarily the same as the coaches' criteria, but it is presumably done consistently across all weeks and teams. Given that it is a tremendous undertaking to grade every player in every play in every game, I'm guessing that it must be at least partially automated, but I don't know. I can't even imagine how they could do it.

As a comparison, here are their Preseason picks, which were based on last year's scores, so you can see who did better than expected, and who did worse:
https://www.pff.com/news/college-pff-preseason-2019-all-m...

First Team: Rourke, Evans, Hagan, Zervos
Second Team: Kittrell
Third Team:
Honorable Mention: Pleasants, I. Motley, Hudson, Hampton

They didn't list second team for kickers and punters, nor any picks for kick returners in the preseason poll. Thus there are no comparisons for Knock or Farakas.

Compared to preseason predictions, six did better, five did worse:
Two positions higher than predicted: Grimes, Luehrman, I. Motley
One position higher than predicted: Pleasants, Cox, Hooks
One position lower than predicted: Rourke
Two positions lower than predicted: Zervos
Three positions lower than predicted: Kittrell, Hagan
Four positions lower than predicted: Evans

I certainly hope Dustin Crum is ready for expectations because dude is getting so much run for not even starting all year and for going 6-6. I didn't expect Nathan to get accolades but come on...let's see what Crum can do now that teams have scouting reports on him from one year and aren't prepared for Woody Barrett. Dude might end up being All-World but at this point, I think the hyperbole is too much.

I'm totally blown away that Motley graded this well. I was not impressed by either Motley this season as I saw them continually with their heads squarely on the WR, never looking back at the ball (a crime that is committed across the board by Ohio secondary)

I'm NOT surprised Hagan graded lower than predicted.

Here's another rating method that also attempts to rate every play, though this one is only for quarterbacks:
https://www.espn.com/college-football/qbr/_/group/15

In this rating, Rourke edged out Crum 75.3 to 73.7. Rourke actually rated slightly higher in 2018, at 77.6, and slightly lower in 2017 at 73.3, but all three years were among the best ever for a MAC quarterback since 2004 when they started this rating method:
