I just got my first season ticket renewal email for next fall. It's loaded with all kinds of things as incentives to renew early. I'm curious - do the incentives truly get anyone excited to renew early?

For me, while I know it's normal in other places, I'm not getting excited about renewing football tickets in early February during basketball season. I'm not even thinking about football season until I see the NFL draft on TV.

I'll probably wait until the last minute as usual - at least until there's a schedule.

This is essentially the schedule

09/05 - NC Central
09/12 - at Boston College
09/19 - Marshall
09/26 - at Texas State

vs Akron
vs Buffalo
vs BG
vs EMU
at Miami
at Kent
at CMU
at Toledo

And based off past history ... I'm guessing it'll shape up something like this

09/05 - NC Central
09/12 - at Boston College
09/19 - Marshall
09/26 - at Texas State
10/3 - at Kent
10/10 - BG - HOMECOMING
10/17 - EMU
10/24 - at CMU
11/4 - Buffalo
11/11 - at Toledo
11/19 - at Miami
11/27 - Akron

And in regards to the $80 per seat for Saturday home games ... you're better off just paying the $140 season tickets for four GA seats. Much cheaper, even if you only go to the Saturday games.

Also seen in the OBC email re: renewals:

"Football season ticket holders also receive some great benefits this season, including $10 worth of Peden Cash that can be used at the concession stands inside Peden Stadium, the ability to purchase additional tickets for the football game against Marshall at a discounted rate"....

I envision this as a way that Marshall can just buy half the stadium. Am I missing something?

No, I believe it was done as a personal favor to yours truly and Jeff McKinney so that we can each buy cheap tickets for our 100 closest friends in Huntington.

Since you're good at getting personal favors from inside the AD's office, I have some ideas....

If they enticed with actual rewards, I would renew early. Contests/drawings are not something that motivate me...so I'll probably wait until the end of the renewal period.

I renewed early because of the incentives. I don't think they are particularly good but I'd rather have them than not.

^^^^^ That's fair. They don't entice me all that much. I already buy basketball tickets, so that's not useful to me. I don't care about signed stuff, and I don't recall what else is in the list.

What would entice me is the ability to buy two GA tickets, because I like wandering or sitting on the hill during a game, combined with the option to buy two parking passes, and not have to buy 6 tickets to get two parking passes. I've never understood why they can't offer the option of extra parking passes without buying more tickets, or more OBC donations.

Four season volleyball tickets and $10 in Peden cash which can be redeemed for a beer and also waiving the $15 "convenience" fee make it worth it.

If I lived in, or much nearer to Athens, that would be interesting.

Last year I renewed early. Have to wait and see what more they do to the 110 before I renew this year.

Question for you all: given what's going on, are you going to renew your seats or wait and see how this plays out?

This was in Julie's email from yesterday:

As our world continues to evolve, we are using this time to evaluate our Athletics operations, to investigate new technologies, to realize operational efficiencies and to develop new strategies to guide our pursuit of excellence. These are uncertain times, but we are staying connected, and we are preparing to return stronger than ever. In the coming week, we will roll out revised timelines for season ticket renewals and a new look for our Ohio Bobcat Club website, which will include our updated OBC Membership Guide. We also will introduce less restrictive guidelines that will be more donor-centric and will encourage impactful giving in support of our student-athletes and sports programs. For those of you who enjoy our annual Bobcat Caravans, we are exploring ways to take our show on the virtual road until we can gather again in person. You’ll hear more from us about these initiatives in the very near future.

That is beautiful "corporate-speak" if I do say so myself. Julie is one with words. She really does mesh well with corporate wing of collegiate athletics.

Unfortunately, I fear the current medical pandemic will turn into an economic crisis which does not bode well for mid-major corporate entities. I foresee a transition back to more of a grassroots Bobcat athletic department. Will Julie be able to adapt?

Is this $10 in Peden Cash a one off or per game?

If it's a one off that's a pretty lame incentive for D1 football, IMHO.

Sounds more like a carrot to dangle students for some special game etc.

I just don't understand the amount of complaining about the lack of free stuff we see on this board.

Could not agree more. I bought the family pack again this year for $140. That works out to $5.83 a ticket. Additionally I'll get $10 for refreshments and a season pass for 4 tickets to every volleyball match. That's one heck of a deal.

It's where I am at right now. Going to renew our tickets for our business and then proceed to get a personal set when this crap blows over. Hope others follow pace

It's one heck of a deal if you can attend every game including weeknight games. Otherwise, I'd call it a good deal, rather than "one heck of a deal". For those of us that live 90-100 or more miles away, weeknight games are tough to make.

Also, if you intend to tailgate at all, your actual cost is $240, not $140. If you are in the boat of living farther away and can only go to 4 games, your per person cost is $15 - still definitely a good deal. Per person if you can only go to three games is $20 - still definitely a good deal.

I still wish I could buy two tickets and two parking passes, as my enjoyment out of football gameday leans more towards tailgating & hanging out than it does being in the stadium. While I'm at it on the wish list, I wish they'd let people re-enter to see the band post game show.
