Topic: OT: OHSAA expands HS playoffs to 12 teams per region

That bye week does no one favors and to tell a team to go from playing games to having two weeks off could very easily kill the mojo of teams in a hurry. If betting were allowed on HS football, I would take the best of the 5-8 seeds more often than a Top 4 seed to get to the Final Four of the playoffs due to staying in rhythm. Only way I'd elect to take a bye is if I had a boatload of injuries/suspensions that would need to be taken care of.
Not sure many districts allow placement on the bracket any longer. It was that way in Akron for many years but down here in the SE district it's get seeded and you go to your assigned spot on the bracket.
Only the SE uses pre slotted brackets.
Looking at the brackets it looks like the NE district does too.

Winton Woods went 6-3 and barely got edged out as a nine seed. They were probably more deserving than say Gahanna who won 3 games and would have got in and two wins were against a one win Lancaster and a two win team. Three win teams getting a spot in the playoffs are a bad look.

Yes, due to their large geographic footprint. Push to get all districts doing the same. Home sites v neutral sites is another disparity between various Districts.

I really don’t know the right answer. There are regions where you have 14 quality teams and others where there are four. I covered five-win teams in the MAC that were good enough to beat every other team in D6 outside their conference. And at times the footprints seem ridiculous. Not much you can do about it, though. It’s like if you paired NCAA tournament games based on colleges being in the same state.

I don't agree that a bye week is something that may not be attractive to a lot of teams. Maybe some teams would elect to play the extra game, but I'd imagine a lot of schools, particularly outside the very largest programs would benefit from a week getting healthy. A lot of high school teams lack depth.
