The real issue is your east and west bleachers were put in when starts were 14”. Today that standard is now about 22”. You can look at the wings which are newer, and they are at an 18” standard.

This reminds me when I was at OSU studying for my master’s degree, I saw a mockup of the stadium in the library accompanied by a newspaper clipping when the stadium was opened up. It was an interesting display, but I was startled to see that the stadium was listed as having a capacity of something like 38,000. When I was there the stadium had not undergone any additions, but the capacity was listed as 64,000. I asked how could this be. The answer was that they had gone through the stadium at one point and reduced the size of the bleacher seats all the way around the stadium. This was enough they claimed to add about 24,000 seats. I still find that amazing and baffling.

Anyone can look at the seating plans on the construction drawings. Then ask athletics how many tickets are issued per row.

Ohio media notes contain a section called "Football Facts".

A football fact is a seating capacity of 27,000.

Applying the 22" standard uniformly across Peden works out to 14,825.99 seats.

Sounds like a mega fact to me. Not too many years ago when you could actually access a seating chart, I totaled them and they were less than 20,000k numbered seats.

Should Ohio take the sardine approach to increase capacity?

Wikipedia has Peden with standing capacity of 28,000.

Bums are bigger than they used to be. Airline coach seats should be the standard.

It's not just water but demand on electric generation as well. It's time for data centers to pay their fair share.

I remember seeing the blueprints to expand the stadium to about 50,000 in the late 1960s. It was a fun time and OH have things have changed.

The AD reduces the seat width to 6" in the grandstands and corners. That would take numbered seats up to 48,110. Then make 55,000 a football fact in the media guide.

Time for the answer a few days before the WVU game.

Main East/West Grandstands 13,644 (14" width)
North Corner Grandstands 4,868 (18" width)
Tower Club 994
Phillips Club East/West 858
Goal Line Patio 120
North End Zone Tables 88
North Corner Handicap Seats 72

Total= 20,644
Media Guide Capacity= 27,000

If the university increased the width of the main grandstand seating from 14" to 18" it would reduce the capacity of those stands down to 10,612. Then the university could put in a deck that spanned almost from Sook to Victory Hill with a lower height for a large stadium/donut feel but only 5,000 to add a net 2,000 seats. With the deck expanded pavilion, concessions etc. for greater standing capacity.

Then call it 32,000 in the media notes. Make it a football fact..

The capacity also includes the teams, coaches, support staff, Sook, sidelines, security—literally anyone who fits in the stadium on Gameday.

Attendance is different.

There are seats and then we have "premium" seats. In new stadium construction the rule of thumb is for 25% of those seats built in a stadium to be premium seats. Fifty percent of stadium revenue is generated by premium seats according to this study.

https://scholarcommons.sc.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article...

With the addition of more chaiback seats between the 40's upon review it has reduced the amount of numbered seats down to 20,140. 15.6% of these seats are premium. Counting goal line and other premium non-permanent sections brings it to 20,420 and 16.7%

Phillips/Benchbacks 858
Tower Club 994
Champions Club 1,288

I can remember a rumor when Sook was under development of installing another 2500 seats in Peden. If those seats are chairbacks for example on Victory Hill that would bring the numbered seats to 22,640 and the percentage of premium seats inside the stadium to 24.9%, almost 25% premium seats on the nose. Then with a renovated student section that was more spacious and a larger hill for more standing room only capacity I can see where Peden could list for 32,000 judging on how its listing for 27,000 in the media guide.

Crowd capacity for West Virginia was 26,740/20,420 for 131% capacity. Ohio could have sold more seats and at a more reasonable price point $50-75 if it had some in the endzone. The sellout for WVU priced some Ohio fans out from what I observed. I thought the intent was never to charge Big Ten pricing in Peden but keep it family affordable.
