With all due respect, it doesn't suck for us who live here. The influx of irresponsible students this summer has caused the Athens City Schools do go remote for the first semester. Online "schooling" for primary school kids is an utter disaster. Athens County is now red and if the trend continues, next Thursday we'll be the only purple county in the state. Let that sink in.

If we really really wanted to have a week one football game, we could call USF, App State, Arkansas State, Albany, or Grambling since this decision eliminated their games that week too.

Most schools in Ohio are going to be “online” in the fall, no matter what these students had done.

There was an article in today's The Post that said Athens County had 234 confirmed cases,10 hospitalizations,no reference to ICU's, and 1 death.

After what we had in NJ,those numbers don't seem bad.
Granted we're a much more densely populated state.

This is due in large part to a lot more testing.

But the state's infection rate is still around 1% and hospitalizations and
deaths keep going down.

We're being told an infection rate,of 1% or less ,not the number of positive test results is what is used to determine how the state is doing with covid.

I guess the point I was trying to make Pete was that the more people that are here in the fall and the more large gatherings of people, the worse it will be. If we can minimize the number of such things it will just suck less.

I guess the point I was trying to make Pete was that the more people that are here in the fall and the more large gatherings of people, the worse it will be. If we can minimize the number of such things it will just suck less.
Hence the reason for the cancellations. Can we agree overall that the situation sucks and no one is winning?

I doubt it. Everyone probably in "wait and see" mode? While it's best to be proactive, so many unknowns at this point. Everything so far appears to be driven at the conference/NCAA level rather than team level.

Hey, a game against Grambling might be neat. I think they were 6-5 last year and have a date with LSU in a couple of years. A great old name in college football.

Looks like Grambling won't be playing until the spring at best-or any teams in the SWAC for that matter....

A couple of questions,just to put things into perspective,since I live in NJ:

1.Is O'Blenness the only hospital in Athens County ?

2.If there are other hospitals,do they treat Covid patients ?

3.Out of the 70,were there any deaths ?

4.What is the infection rate in Athens City/County ?

At least Athens County is off the governor's "purple level" watch list. The statewide mask mandate may have come too late to save the September schedule. Maybe the healthcare industry should've set up a 501(c)(4) dark money group months ago to funnel bribe money to state politicians to support a mask mandate.
