+1 Very good analogy, sir! ;-)
Well can I "buy" one of the lifeboats please? I heard from Rose there aren't nearly enough lifeboats and I'm confident if I'm stuck on the boat with her at the end she'll murder me.

Greatest movie conspiracy ever. She killed Jack. The End

Akron announces elimination of 3 programs: Men’s cross country, men’s golf and women’s tennis will be cut from the university’s programs. The move will save the university $4.4 million.

I wonder what the net savings for football would be?

They are also reducing scholarships in other sports, reducing some coaches' salaries and eliminating administrative positions. I bet there are more cuts to come as schools realize how many students are opting for a gap year in 2020-2021.

Probably more than you think because it would be paired with a matching reduction to women's sports, to eliminate an equal 85 scholarships and 115 participants. That would probably be five or so women's sports.

Latest news from Akron doesn't indicate that they plan to leave the MAC. Also, no word yet on how Akron and other MAC schools plan to handle football.

I can't imagine anyone is going to leave the MAC, doing that would be compounding the problem and adding to a lot of negative publicity that no school needs right now. If things don't go perfectly this fall, people are going to be forgiving and give you a mulligan, it's next fall when a vaccine is out and the economy and people's psyche are on the upswing that they won't be forgiving about waste, bloated budgets, and even losing. Hopefully our conversations next year will focus on x's and o's, and not economic survival and whether anyone will leave the MAC.

I'm not buying the "this fall will be fine" argument. People are already frustrated. Take away football and the odds of civil disobedience increase dramatically.

Not what I said in the slightest, as far as taking away football. I simply said people will understand mistakes made this season as far as perpetration, lack of spring football etc. I am the last person who believes you should take away football. I think this whole lock down-self inflicted wound fiasco will be remembered for years to come, but I digress to the General Discussion page where you can read my thoughts.

When a vaccine MIGHT be out. A 12-18 month turnaround for developing a vaccine would be EXTREMELY fast. Yes, there are new vaccine “platforms” being tested that have the potential to rapidly speed vaccine development...but no vaccine based on these new vaccine platforms has been brought to market. Yes, SARS-CoV2 has been rapidly and widely sequenced in a way that has never happened with another pathogen, and that might help.

There is a LOT more effort and money being thrown at a vaccine for SARS-CoV2 than toward any other pathogen in human history (I’m guessing there, but it seems a reasonable guess), but that is no guarantee of rapid success. 12-18 months (from March 2020) is technically possible, but in my view that represents an extreme best case scenario, at least if we are talking about a SAFE and EFFECTIVE vaccine. Historically speaking, 5-15 years would be a more median estimate of vaccine development and deployment. I hope hope hope that I’m wrong, but i don’t think anyone should be making plans or policy on the assumption and an effective, safe vaccine will be widely available in 2021.

Not really much of a betting man, but if Vegas took odds on a vaccine by the end of this year, I would plunk down some cash. Lots of money to be made in a vaccine, not to mention that Moderna, and the Oxford/Astrazeneca project are way ahead of where anyone thought it would be. Actually there is a plant in India already producing the Oxford vaccine, because they believe it will be approved and want somewhat of a head start. I believe that was the thinking behind Operation Warp Speed.

As I said in the last post, I fully expect that this time next year we will be engaging in talk about coaches on the hot seat, x's and o's, and not about anyone leaving the MAC, viruses and vaccines.

Let’s be clear: i hope you’re right, but don’t get your hopes up (or rather, roll your eyes at anyone who says “we can’t do X until there’s a vaccine” if they aren’t willing to acknowledge that that might require 5-10 years)

It's probably even money or better that A vaccine will be out by the end of the year. The FDA is under a lot of political pressure to move things quickly to the market, so a vaccine this year, probably by fall, is almost a given. The betting should be on how effective it'll be and what side effects it'll have.

As a betting man, the more political pressure the FDA and CDC are to team up with big pharma the more likely I am to let other guinea pigs test the side effects. 100% correlation, actually.

The MAC needs to strike while hot..add Marshall again with Middle Tennessee and Old Dominion. In hoops add them all and go grab all D1 in state along with everyone bordering: Northern and Eastern Kentucky, Duquesne, Robby Mo, Detroit..etc.

What makes you think those schools would be interested? My guess is there will be no expansion. The MAC has been really conservative about that over the past 10 years.

Yes, the MAC has been conservative, but we really have no alternative but to consider radical change. Status quo is not a strategy in today's environment.

If the MAC could expand and add those teams, that would be the time to revamp Peden, add that second deck and get our capacity up to 35k, which would generate much more revenue

Adding N. Ky, Robert M, Duquesne and Detroit doesn't do anything for football.

Don't forget updated restrooms. Of course, we might not be able to improve the restrooms because the increased revenue would be needed to offset the smaller share of MAC TV money we would be getting.
