I would expect anything less than the 15% that Nellis took to cause quite the commotion.

With 140 hourly workers losing their jobs at the end of the month, not cutting the salaries of some of the highest paid employees would be a tough sell.

Oddly, some will be more secure in their jobs. No way programs will be able to do buyouts on any head coaches.

Interestingly, West Virginia University just announced salary cuts for the head coaches of football, mbb and wbb. I think 10% each. In another story along these lines, Oklahoma State just agreed with a home for home game in mbb with Oral Roberts University in an effort to cut costs. Of course in that case Okie State could dress in Iba arena on campus and be at Mabee Center in about 45 minutes. Plus, a ton of OSU alumni live in Tulsa and Mabee Center seats 10,500 comfortably. However, I think you will see P-5 teams be willing to make these types of deals in the near future to save $$$. Point is even in the Big-12 efforts are being made to cut costs. ORU plays OSU annually in every sport and has home/home deals except for mbb. The move now in mbb is to save OSU $$$. Previously ORU playing at OSU in mbb was a money game for ORU. The last time OSU played in Mabee Center was 1997.

A lot of these cuts in the big time athletic conferences, especially the Big 12 are window dressing to say the least. Imagine you are an employee of some Big 12 school like West Virginia or Oklahoma State, and you are on furlough wondering if you will get your job back. The fact that Mike Leach might only make 4.5 million, instead of his contracted 5 million dollar, or Neal Brown might only make 10% of his multi million dollar salary is of little consolation to you. Power Conferences will make window dressing cuts to athletics, for non-Power Conferences it is a totally different equation.

Some of these cuts and furloughs I'm reading about don't seem large enough to deal with the problems.

I was startled when I read this, but checked, and it is incorrect. Neal Brown will make 90% of his multi-million dollar salary.

I do agree that a 10% cut is just window dressing.
