Well, you never even floated the idea in basketball, only float it as football, so by defacto, you only state this is an issue with football. Really not that hard to understand.

Not to pick on football as well but reading the article on Kent State’s cuts in athletic department due to covid is striking.

In order for Kent State to “compete” in BigBoy football they have non-conference scheduled games against Bama, Kentucky AND Penn State. These aren’t games they scheduled to be able to compete in, they are games scheduled to generate dollars so they can compete in a division of football they have no earthly chance of EVER being able to compete in. That’s just the front part of their schedule. And who amongst would ever be against pitting our “student athletes” against a clearly far superior foe for the express purpose of not generating wins but money?

Bringing up the rear of the schedule brings one those TV megabucks from playing those mega tv blockbusterratings of the Tuesday/Wednesday cold blustery November Ohio evenings. Well I guess those games may now really be of value to the entire nation. It will provide the nation with a true blueprint of how football can proceed without fans in the stands! The MAC truly is the conference leader in social distancing! We’re #1.

Not trying to pick on our MAC associate KSU as you can insert any MAC team in my little rant. The shoe fits for us all. We were already in an arms race we had no chance of competing in when times were good. Might really be a good time for the D1 delusion to cease or at the very least a different approach be taken.

Kent is very competitive in basketball, baseball and golf and other sports. They have been to the College World Series recently and the final 8 in hoops and the golf program is excellent. They won a bowl game in football last season. Don't kid yourselves as Kent has been way more successful in some of these sports than Ohio. If by chance they "play football games vs Auburn, Bama, Ky., Wisc, ASU, and Penn State to pump up" their athletic department then so be it. Good for them. I personally think that this type of schedule is not the recipe for success, but that may be the new normal for many football schools. Will the Bobcats continue to play Wilbenforce, Northwest Ohio, Heidleberg, Capital, Rio and some others in basketball to pump up their record or go on the road for money games at Duke, Kentucky, Louisville, Xavier, Maryland or many others? The need to play several of those schools may soon be necessary.

Maybe the days of playing Howard, NC Central, RI and Gardner Webb are over in football? Taking on a type of schedule that Kent is facing this season at Penn St, at Ky. and at Bama is unthinkable, but they will get paid a pretty penny as long as Ohio's former AD didn't negotiate the contract. Cross off sure home wins in hoops as Rio, Heidelberg, Wilbenforce, Northwestern Ohio, Urbana, Capital and Marietta probably will be traded in for away money games at Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan and Xavier.

I don't know about the future basketball schedule, but playing future football games with Syracuse and Iowa State home and home do nothing for the budget. Those games make sense, if Ohio gets paid to play them away, but not a home and home. Of course those games were negotiated by the former AD.

We're at Rutgers in '23. '22 is @ISU, @Penn St, home vs FAU and Fordham.

Thanks NashvilleKat as that schedule is a little better. However the ISU game is not a money game, since they are returning the trip in 2023. Although with the current pandemic situation, I could see some of Ohio's future schedules getting changed.
