minus opening day gate, warm weather, lots of visitors to Athens, full hotel rooms, display of school spirit for incoming frosh. I'm not arguing against this decision, but this isn't a win for anyone. It sucks royally.

With all due respect, it doesn't suck for us who live here. The influx of irresponsible students this summer has caused the Athens City Schools do go remote for the first semester. Online "schooling" for primary school kids is an utter disaster. Athens County is now red and if the trend continues, next Thursday we'll be the only purple county in the state. Let that sink in.

If we really really wanted to have a week one football game, we could call USF, App State, Arkansas State, Albany, or Grambling since this decision eliminated their games that week too.

Most schools in Ohio are going to be “online” in the fall, no matter what these students had done.

Is that the number of people who had a positive covid test ?

Is there any way to find out, within that period, how many people with a positive test ended up in the hospital, especially ICU,on a vent,or passed away ?

There was an article in today's The Post that said Athens County had 234 confirmed cases,10 hospitalizations,no reference to ICU's, and 1 death.

After what we had in NJ,those numbers don't seem bad.
Granted we're a much more densely populated state.

Does anyone know what the various colors Ohio uses are based on ?

The numbers in N.J. are showing increases in positive test results.
This is due in large part to a lot more testing.

But the state's infection rate is still around 1% and hospitalizations and
deaths keep going down.

We're being told an infection rate,of 1% or less ,not the number of positive test results is what is used to determine how the state is doing with covid.

I guess the point I was trying to make Pete was that the more people that are here in the fall and the more large gatherings of people, the worse it will be. If we can minimize the number of such things it will just suck less.

Hence the reason for the cancellations. Can we agree overall that the situation sucks and no one is winning?

Does anyone believe that the coaches are looking to fill these 2 open dates we now have on the schedule?

I doubt it. Everyone probably in "wait and see" mode? While it's best to be proactive, so many unknowns at this point. Everything so far appears to be driven at the conference/NCAA level rather than team level.

Hey, a game against Grambling might be neat. I think they were 6-5 last year and have a date with LSU in a couple of years. A great old name in college football.

As I stated that was ACTIVE cases, not just folks that tested positive.

Looks like Grambling won't be playing until the spring at best-or any teams in the SWAC for that matter....

As far as I know,an "active" covid case is a person who tested positive, but who
has not yet "recovered".This includes, testing negative,if they asymptomatic, or died.

"Active" doesn't necessarily give any indication of "severity" of the infection.

Based on what we're being told by our health commissioner in N.J., the
controlling "metrics" are "rate of infection" (1 or less is the goal),
hospitalizations, including ICU's and vents and deaths.

In N,J,the number of positive tests went up.
That was due to a lot more testing sites and rapid (saliva) tests.

But new hospitalizations are dropping like a stone.
Of those new hospitalizations, very few ICU patients, and even fewer vents.

Most deaths are, based on a comment from our Gov. "previously unreported".

My niece is a Critical Care Nurse whose hospital is in a "Hot Spot".
As of Saturday they were down to 2 covid patients.

At one time 70 in O’Blenness with COVID. That sound better for you. Several were in ICU, including a couple healthy individuals in their 40’s.

A couple of questions, just to put things into perspective, since I live in NJ:

1.Is O'Blenness the only hospital in Athens County ?

2.If there are other hospitals,do they treat Covid patients ?

3.Out of the 70,were there any deaths ?

4.What is the infection rate in Athens City/County ?
As I posted,we're being told that infection rate of 1 or less is good.

At least Athens County is off the governor's "purple level" watch list. The statewide mask mandate may have come too late to save the September schedule. Maybe the healthcare industry should've set up a 501(c)(4) dark money group months ago to funnel bribe money to state politicians to support a mask mandate.
