Go Herd!

FYI: This is the 50th anniversary year of the crash that killed most of the team as well as others, including my friend and student, Jeff Nathan, sports editor of The Parthenon, the student newspaper. I hope to be able to attend the memorial service on or about November 14th. For obvious reasons, plans for the event are still vague at this time.

It's hard to get excited about anything related to college football right now. At least the pros are paid enough to make the risk worth it or so it seems now. Still, who wants to see even them come down with something that might threaten their lives, let alone their careers. College football is no longer the fun escape from reality that it used to be, so what is the point?

I won't go as say I'm rooting for Marshall, but I'm not rooting against them

I root for OU and Army -- so this year, it's all Army.

Looking forward to seeing their game against BYU. I think they'll have a better showing than their Naval brethren.

Supposedly Navy hadn't had any contact practices for health reasons, and the BYU game was their first contact of the season. I suspect Navy isn't as bad as they looked and BYU isn't as good as they looked, but who knows.

I might root for Louisiana. They creamed us last year on the way to an 11-win season and they just beat #23 Iowa St 31-14 on the road.

The Sun Belt, or SBC as it appears on their new logo, looks to be pretty solid this year. Cajuns may or may not even be the best team in the conference this year. Arkansas State is still in a place to win their game with K-State as I type this.

App State shook off the rust to put away Charlotte and the 49ers maybe have something brewing for CUSA this season?

Depending on how the rest of this season goes, Louisiana's Billy Napier could be a chic pick for P5 schools shopping for a new coach come December (or earlier).
