No games but perhaps we can still have tailgates, have the band and cheerleaders show up and get hammered enough to think we made it to the game and lasted till halftime, just like before our college days were over.

Feeling sorry for the Athens businesses who are going to really feel the loss of the MAC season.

Yo Mr. Yikes - that is the drop in hospitality tax - 3% on hotel rooms. Which means for the quarter April through June, hotel revenue is down $3 million. Using your math (which is incorrect to apply all revenue to wages) that would be 66 jobs in the city of Athens gone (if we're looking at an average salary of 45k). Again your calculus is wrong, as is your (apparent) cavalier dismissal of the jobs lost in hospitality during this pandemic. Suffice to say, the impact is rather extreme to the hotel industry and their employees (as it is to your and many other industries). Additionally, take a drive around the hotels and see how many eateries are within shouting distance - that's by design. Back to Alan's point, the loss of the season will further cripple and possibly put out of business a number of hotel (and eating) establishments in Athens.

Some B10 coaches(O$U and Nebraska among them) are floating the idea of playing even if the conference calls off the season. Could be they'd be indies for a season. Could be they'd latch onto another "P" conference. Could be they'd just play one another. It would be interesting to see how their agreement with the conference addresses this, if at all.

I’m now in the “Let’s see what happens when you take the new opiate of the people away as a social experiment” camp.

If I’m going to live in this new hellish reality, I want some of my old thought experiments to actually come to life.

Let’s get this Petri dish growing.

There are fully grown human beings who are lost if they don’t have a football game to watch. They’ve never even considered another hobby, skill or way to fill their time. Their identity is rooting for 16-22 year olds do something while they sit motionless. I want to see if they change their lives or become political psychopaths.

I’ve already read more books this year than I had since college. I’m wondering what my brain couldve done it hadn’t had a photographic memory of the 1990’s Cleveland Indians stuffed in there.

As I've posted here,my wife and I follow Drum Corps.

The season starts with Spring Training in May and has competitions through the DCI World Championship,which would have been last weekend.

A lot of fans are like us,and usually go a few shows over the Summer.

But,in addition to Corps members,staff and Judges,for some people,especially music educators,its a 24/7 "addiction".

They are either traveling to shows or watching them on Flo Marching.
Then discussing each corps' show and scores till the next one.

This Summer,no Drum Corps.

What was surprising was that a number of die hard fans have said they didn't miss it anywhere near as much as they thought they would.
They just found other things to do.
Of course there are others who spent the Summer watching videos of previous years shows.
Some people also posted what they would have been doing each day,if there was
drum corps.

At least Purdue has offered a more workable schedule that begins the last week of February. I'm for a spring schedule that has a chance to succeed with players and fans. O$U's doesn't.

We are indeed discussing a spring schedule. Just watch the AD's recent video interview with Frank. Spring football is very much in play.

I'm not disputing that spring semester is in play for football. But if you actually read the damn news release (https://getsomemaction.com/news/2020/8/7/general-mid-amer... ) it mentions "spring semester" but does not mention a start date, unlike Ryan Day at O$U who specifically mentioned starting a "spring" season the first week in January and ending the last week in February. Spring semester also includes March and April. The MAC COULD propose a "spring semester" football season that starts the first week in March and ends the last week in April. (I'm not saying that's what they've done, but it's a possibility.)

There's been talk of pushing the start of the 21 season back to October anyway, so it wouldn't have to start too early.
