Topic: What are fans thinking about the 2020 college football season?

So far this season, 108 D1A games have been postponed or cancelled with more still in doubt. Seven bowl games have been cancelled and others are in jeopardy. Teams playing for conference championships might not have the best record in their division (e.g., the B10 East). It took Houston a month to get on the field (they've played only three more games than we have); Charlotte hasn't played since Halloween; Arizona St has played one game since the Pac-12 season started. Teams are having to practice in other states and play outside their counties because of local travel restrictions. So what are fans thinking about all this?

I know that not being able to go to games really sucks and most fans aren't happy about that. But I haven't heard much about these other issues. I don't listen to sports radio or watch the sports talk shows, so I haven't heard much. I know that O$U fans are on edge that the Bucks will go undefeated but won't have played enough games to get into the B10 championship game. Are fans generally ok with all this or do they think this is a joke of a season?

I can't speak for all fans, but the whole circus involving all the pro and college leagues makes me think everything related to 2020 should have an asterisk next to it. The marathon of a baseball season was turned into a 10k. The suspended and bubbled NBA playoffs were well-done from a health standpoint but still bizarre and artificial from a fan standpoint. The NFL is twisting itself into knots to pull off a season, and games with no QBs and the Steelers/Ravens fiasco are now commonplace.

As to college, it feels even worse to me. The risks of travel and exposure for unpaid kids to feed content to the maw of television exposes everything bad we know about the NCAA. It's deepened my ambivalence -- I still watch some and care about the results so I'm not pretending to be on a higher moral plane, but I feel dirtier than usual doing so. Like many things in life (whether that's working from home, the death of brick and mortar retail, etc.) the pandemic is rapidly accelerating things that were already slowly happening. I think the coming years will see dramatic changes to college athletics.

Half the fun of college football is the atmosphere surrounding the game. I’m much less interested in watching games with no fans and bands. I’ll still watch Ohio, but much less interested in watching other games. Not as interesting

With Miami/Kent now being cancelled, the MAC East seems like it could end up being a huge joke. Imagine if Buffalo finishes 5-1, we finish 4-1 and Miami finishes 3-1, which is now possible...

One of the biggest issues I have is the travel. When we tell folks to stay at home and then transport large numbers of people hundreds of miles from hot spots to even hotter spots to simply play a game, it just doesn't make sense.

When I do watch a game though, the "fake" noise is enough to make you want to turn it off not to mention the commercials. There's a reason Netflix stock is up 53% for the year.

I look forward to the games. It makes you appreciate what you have. I don't really pay attention to the ranked teams or the playoffs anyway. Watching the Bobcats is one of the few times I turn on the TV. I liked Baseball season as well -- I think they did a good job handling the adversity. Do I wish it would've been perfect and 162 games long -- sure. The NFL seems poorly managed. They should've expanded the rosters to allow for some of the problems.

Now they are complaining about not getting to see their kids or visit with them. 🤦🏼‍♂️🙄😳

Watched a little of the Steelers game yesterday. I couldn’t take the fake fan noise and announcer babble. Turned the sound off.

I would say the 2020 football season is the stupidest, most worthless season football season in my lifetime! And, like most all of you, I love football just not this way...
