Below is the list of Bobcats in the Transfer Portal

Shane Hooks (WR) -- to Jackson State
Cleotis Anglin (DE) -- to Bethune Cookman
Marlin Brooks (CB) --
Marcus Coleman (DT) --

https://247sports.com/college/ohio/Season/2021-Football/T... /

I'm sure we will see a few more names pop up in the portal soon unfortunately.

Interesting but not surprised since he "officially opted out for good" according to Arkley. Also, I'm sure it didn't help his case with both Motleys coming back and with Birchette showing pretty well in the 3 game season.

On a positive note, we got ourselves a transfer from Virginia Tech. He's a big boy.

TJ Jackson - OT (6'6, 377)
3-Star(.8099)
Also had an NC State offer out of High School

2020: Fifth-year senior who was a reserve offensive lineman

2019: Played in 10 games with two starts … Opened at right guard at Boston College (8/31) … Also started at right guard in the Belk Bowl vs. Kentucky (12/31).

Have you seen the number of some of the MAC players from other teams in the portal? Good Lord some of these schools are losing a bunch of guys.

Funny you ask because I actually just looked into that today. It's quite shocking.

Team- Transfer Out, Transfer In

Akron- 9, 2
Ball State- 5, 0
Bowling Green- 7, 1
Buffalo- 6, 0
CMU- 6, 2
EMU- 1, 2
Kent State- 8, 3
Miami- 7, 1
NIU- 13, 1
Ohio- 3, 1
Toledo- 2, 3
Western- 4, 0

Obviously Northern Illinois stands out with possibly losing 13 players to the portal (5 CBs, 3 WRs, 2 DL, 1 LB, 1 TE, 1 RB). Not sure what's going on there but wow. They did just get a the MSU QB transfer Rocky Lombardi though.

Rufus- do you think this transfer trend will only continue to increase for MAC schools as the years move on?

I'd like to think this year is an anomaly due to COVID but I guess it all depends on what they decide to due with the rule that forces players to sit out a year if they decide to transfer and how they interpret the waiver rule.

It makes sense why we are seeing the crazy number of transfers this year since it does not count against anyone and they don't have to sit a year. So why not "test the waters" if you think you can cut it at a "better school". Everyone's situation and opportunities are different.

Doesn't it make sense that transfers coming in will lag behind transfers out at the beginning? Hopefully, MAC schools will catch up to some degree before this cycle is done.

It would be interesting, for MAC teams, how many senors have opted in for the extra year of eligibility?
I firmly believe that this choice could have a big impact in a teams success next year.
Add in these transfers out and things could be even more interesting.

Good point, which is another reason Ohio will be in great shape next year. Not only has Ohio barely been touched by transfers (of note) going out, Ohio also get a good one coming in AND have 12 super seniors returning. Ohio will be in excellent shape compared to many teams next year.

Asking for a friend, what makes one a super senior, much less 12 super seniors?

Sirmon is one of the most overrated college QB's in the past decade. And he's a flop at CMU away from being one of the biggest busts. I'd like to see him do well at CMU, because he couldn't beat anyone at at U-Dub and this is realistically he's last shot at a D-I shot.

It just means they're seniors from 2020 who are exercising the additional year they were awarded because of Covid, which Ohio seems to be well ahead of most MAC peers with at last check.

As far as I know, if a player declares for the draft, but doesn't hire an
agent, they can still go back to school.

Don't know how many, if any, this applies to.
But it could shorten the list a bit.

I was just about to say that Buffalo lost their top 2 RBs but... some quick research revealed Kevin Marks Jr is coming back to Buffalo (despite interest and offers from some Big time Power 5 schools)

I dont think he is overrated. UWs offense didn't maximize his potential. UWs offense truly depends on long-developing plays (whether that is stretch runs handed off at the tackle or playactions off of that).

Daniel Richardson at CMU is 5'10" and had problems seeing over the line later in the year which led to more scrambles and eventually to his season-ending ACL tear. Sirmon can see over the line, deliver a great ball while keeping the receiver in motion and can take a hit from smaller MAC LBers. Ill be interested in seeing his development too. CMU runs quick passes to get the Khalil Pimpletons of the world the ball quick in space. Imagine they found a P5 guy that can do that.

No, it's because he hasn't been able to beat out the other QB's at U-Dub. They've relied on a balanced offense, with a good ground game and a balanced passing attack. And this isn't his first go-around in the transfer portal either. Petersen recruiting him and after Eason beat him for the the #1 job he fell down the depth charts a year ago and entered the portal. U-Dub hired a new coach (Lake) and Sirmon pulled out of the portal and returned. Then this year Morris beat him out, he fell back down the depth chart again and he went back into the portal. He was one of the top QB's in the country coming out of high school and hasn't been able to win the job in a couple seasons at U-Dub. Further, there's no guarantee he's even going to be the starter at CMU. Moore (would have been the starter for CMU last year but was suspended) is leaving CMU, and had he stayed, he'd probably be the #1 QB next year no matter who was at CMU. And if Sirmon does beat out Richardson for the job, he's extremely inexperienced as he's hardly played at all in college. I am curious to see how this plays out at CMU though.
