Agreed. To put it in another way, a lot of the $ bama or o$u are spending beyond what Ohio is spending gets hit by the law of diminishing returns...
Then if the returns are diminishing, why are they paying their coaches so much?

Which is why I said just carve the non-power conferences out into a separate division/tournament. Why continue to pretend to be in the same division? Every league of anything on earth these days ends in some culminating chance at a title except for non-power D1 football teams.

At that point, why create a third division with so few schools? Why not just play at the FCS level?
Because its about power. The G5 can keep their own rules and say who belongs in their club much like the P5 does. They can continue with 85 scholarships when FCS has only 65 (not all of FCS as BTC pointed out fully funds).

As part of the split the P5 could give up some of their bowls in the process. G5 could settle their champion in a BCS format if they wanted and keep the bowl tradition.

I guess I see that? I just don't see what is actually good about that for the G5. They get to spend more on scholarships and play their championship in Mobile or Boise? Nothing seems good about that to me. What's the point? Just to ensure supremacy over the FCS schools?

Diminishing returns =/= no returns
Diminishing returns also =/= 5 National Championships this decade.

-Remove conference divisions
-Minimum 9 conference games, minimum one Power 5 non-conference game

-Maximum 2 losses for Independents

Oregon at Ohio State
Oklahoma at Cincy

I'm sure that you could juggle things up and switch A&M and ND to avoid the rematches. How sweet would it be to see a blueblood like Oklahoma have to play at a G5 school and in the cold.
