So who are you pulling for tonight? South Dakota State or Northern Iowa?

They're doing about as well as the programs did last fall: six out of 20 postponed, although some of them might due to the ice storms that hit the south.

Youngstown State plays at ND State Sunday at 3:30 on ESPN+. It's appropriate that the Penguins will play in North Dakota in February.

Doing as well as the programs did in the fall...with <0.1% of the interest

It shows the futility of trying to make plans during a pandemic no matter how far into the future. CoVID is still quite a problem in Ohio and most of the midwest. It is mid winter and the weather is harsh. I think only UNI has an indoor stadium.
They will probably have to deal with cancellations and and an 8 week season that will not allow for postponements.
Their season ends in mid April. Perhaps they can have some semblance of a post-season.

YSU has a new staff. Most have some connection to YSU or OSU and a member of a past Tressel staff.

This level has an interest problem even when they play in the fall. Ivy gets one TV game a week on Thursdays and the rest of 1AA gets just about bupkis until the playoff semis. The only real notice that any 1AA team gets is when they knock off a 1A team. (Yes, I know they're FCS and FBS, but they both have a championship playoff of sorts, so those acronyms don't mean much.) The problem now is that b-ball is eating up most of the available network time. Come mid-March, some of the networks will be looking to fill airtime, so a few games will likely show up on the networks.

NCAA has already announced there is no post season. Schools are playing on their own.

But if OHIO went FCS, we’d change the landscape of college football and FCS. Read it here multiple times over the years, we could play for a real title and the excitement would be off the charts.

The spring season has become worth it for SIU. The Salukis beat ND State 38-14 on Saturday, ending the Bisons' 39-game winning streak. It was the Salukis' first win over the Bisons since 2009. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/30975048...

I think the argument is that there would continue to be no excitement about Ohio football.

I disagree. I have been to almost all Saturday home games for 20 years, excluding 2020 of course, and Peden is fully capable of hosting smaller crowds.

Yes, we could have the 3rd smallest capacity in FBS. Or the 2nd. Or the 1st.

According to Wikipedia we're tied with BG for ninth smallest, and third smallest in the MAC behind BSU and NIU.

Feel the excitement!

I think the link I was looking at must have been outdated. Had us at fourth: https://www.campusexplorer.com/college-advice-tips/0B7C39... .

FWIW, Duquesne opens up its four-game spring schedule tomorrow with a home game vs Sacred Heart. They're scheduled to play every Sunday in March -- at Wagner next Sunday, home vs LIU on the 21st and at Bryant on the 28th. Most games are on ESPN+ or ESPN3.

Also, New Mexico St is playing Dixie St in the Alamo Dome tomorrow as part of the Aggies' two-game spring regular season. They didn't play last fall and postponed the regular season to spring. So far it's not going well. They lost to Tarleton, 43-17, on Feb 21.
