Auburn hiring Boise State's Bryan Harsin.

Also over the weekend, Illinois hired former Wisconsin head man BERT...ahem...Bret Bielema.

I thought he'd end up somewhere, but that's not a program that I think has much upside. Could be wrong.

I'm sure the same thing was said about Ohio's program 16 years ago. Of course, Terry Bowden's a bit older than Solich was back then and he seems to be more set in his ways.

Well, it probably has more upside than Akron. That's a point I'll easily concede! ;-)

Arizona hires Jedd Fisch.

First reactions are this is a stop gap hire to help with their budget deficit, and they'll be looking for another coach in 3 years.

This is his first HC job since being named interim coach at UCLA in 2017. Other than that he's been a career assistant in the NFL and college.

There's a rumor that at least one NFL team is looking at PJ Fleck for a HC job.

I’d like to see the LV odds on this one. His style seems so unprofessional (yes, that’s a pun) that I don’t see him in the NFL ever. As always, I could be wrong, unlike some of my colleagues here on BA who are never, ever wrong. I won’t name, names, but you know who I’m talking about.

I am going to agree with you (for maybe a 2nd time ever ;-) but nothing is more despised in the professional locker room than a rah-rah gimmick type approach. Funny, once the checks start coming in, the attitude totally changes.

Terry Bowden adds Rich Rodriguez as OC at ULM along with his son, Rhett, a transfer at QB from Arizona.

LOL Tennessee.

They're pretty much self reporting NCAA violations so they can avoid paying Pruitt and staff's buyout.

What a mess.

As bad as Arth's record was so far, he had transitioned the approach and was focusing more on Ohio/regional recruiting. If I was a young coordinator right now I would be interested in the Akron job because I could probably be successful just by getting them back to .500 and if made it 8-4 in a couple of years I could get a better gig. I think the foundation is there and I think that given the record the past few years a coach would get a long time to rebuild.

Did somebody say Charlie Frye?

How do you get that? the guy has proven he can win, he's got solid values and is a good person.

And how many people do you think Frank brought with him when he came here that he nor his key assistants did not know or had worked with? That's not a hire based on who you know, but rather who fits what you are trying to do.

But his track record above D2 is awful -- 10-30. And unfortunately in the NFL it's results that matter, not values or being a good person. I wish him well, but if he didn't have connections he wouldn't even get the time of day from any NFL team.

He's won the same number of MAC titles as OHIO.

His record is 1-17 at Akron. Will that get him a prize?

No. Ohio won in 1968 and several times before that.

Tom Arth may very well be a good person and decent coach, but his hands are tied at Akron. If he is limited to just recruiting Ohio, then that doesn't give his school the best opportunity to win. This state has plenty of good high school players. Although after Ohio State, UC, Kentucky, Pitt, West Virginia, Penn State, both Michigan schools and numerous other universities sort out the best recruits, where does that leave the MAC and specifically Akron? Time will tell, but Arth is in a very tough spot. If he achieves a winning record at Akron, that would be a huge accomplishment.
