What’s the over/under on how many years he lasts at Kansas? Hope he’s getting Charlie Weis type money so he can enjoy his retirement when his coaching career is declared dead in the Kansas coaching graveyard.
Well Kansas got rid of Jeff Long at AD, so that was already a big first step for them. It really depends on the new AD having reasonable expectations on what this job is. It's a literal, gut it to the studs, multi-year rebuild. It could be 2030 before we actually see what this job could be. Long basically buried this program into the ground by calling out minor NCAA infractions under David Beatty just to save his ass on the basketball side's own investigation. Then he made it worse by hiring Les Miles to pump some fake juice into the program. It's a messsss.
Personally I would have went with Jeff Monken at Army. You're never gonna get the talent to compete by using the same types of offenses that other Big 12 teams run. Had they opted for the triple option (or some variation of it - Monken said he would tweak it at a bigger job), you give defenses something different to prepare for.
But the triple option gets a bad rap at the Power 5 level because Paul Johnson was such a prickly a-hole about running the true option at Georgia Tech. Other schools like Georgia Southern and Coastal Carolina have option principles while also incorporating other schemes and formations.
But Leipold is probably the next best alternative. If they give him time - like at least 5 years, then he could make some chicken salad out of chicken sh*t.
