You're on a roll lately. Are you now on the PR payroll? Can you imagine if football had to do the same thing - walk the same distance to get to the football field? It would never happen. Bottom line is sports like track, golf, and wrestling are going to have a difficult time recruiting athletes because of our lack of quality facilities.
I disagree, when it comes to wrestling.
Looking at the top programs around the country, facilities, in and of themselves, are not the selling point they are for other sports.
A big selling point is the quality of the program,i.e, how many wrestlers make it to the podium as an All American each year, including National Champions.
When it comes to O.U. there aren't many AA's let alone top finishers.
Another selling point is the quality of coaching.
This includes the number of individual and team National Championships.
A perfect example is what happened to Penn State's program when they hired Cael Sanderson.
Again,on a national level, coaching is not one of O.U.'s strengths, from the head coach down.
O.U. also doesn't have "people in the room".
That is, people like graduates who, although they are no longer competing, act as
training partners.
Nothing like practicing with a national champ every day to provide incentive.
Last but not least is a RTC (Regional Training Center).
Coaches use this to develop their programs.
An RTC attracts top wrestlers at all levels from youth through Olympics and provides higher level training.
