Just noticed that Louisiana is ranked, 23, preseason and Northwestern is not fall behind.
If by chance we can go 4-0 in our OOC schedule this year we will be turning some heads to possibly be ranked.

That would be fantastic.

However I would be happy with 2-2 seeing how strong the schedule is shaping up OOC.

Very true. Syracuse, Louisana, and Northwestern are winnable games. I disagree with ESPN (Surprise!) whose 'Match up predictor' gives Ohio a 10% chance to beat NWU and 17% chance to beat Louisana. I agree the home teams should be favorites but Ohio has a better chance than that, especially against Louisiana.

There are a few things for Ohio to like in the match up vs Louisiana. Ohio had 5 turnovers in the 2019 loss, something they can probably fix. On offense, Louisiana's weakness in 2020 was a lack of playmakers at WRs which is also the weakness of Ohio's cover 4-in terms the risk that is created by Ohio's CBs regularly being left on an island. If Ohio is playing solid cornerback, they should be able to handle Louisana's receivers, allowing them to focus on the run.

Louisana also is not the same on the o-line as they were in 2019. While they are still big and good, two NFL draft picks graduated from the 2019 o-line. Also, while their 2021 starter smith is a good RB, they lost their main two RBs to graduation/NFL draft

The Ragin' Cagins' defenses is very legit. The relative weakness is the CBs. I like Ohio's WRs against their CBs.

With the coaching change, the Northwestern game has some historical significance. They were Ohio's first opponent of the Solich era -- a 16-8 loss where our only score was when Dion Byrum picked off a pitch in the NWern backfield and took it to the house. (He scored our first three TDs that year, two pick-sixes against Pitt the next week.) So now we have them in Albin's first year as well. And even though they're ranked just outside the top 25, we should have a pretty shot at beating them.

BTW, if both Louisiana and NWern are ranked when we play them, that'll be ranked teams in back-to-back weeks, which I don't think has ever happened with Ohio football. A quick glance at the record book shows the last time we had two ranked teams in the same season was 2003, about eight weeks apart.

That was a strong year for the MAC with two ranked teams.

You're right about the pitch but that's the wrong score. Nw laid a whippin' on us in that first game. It was a few years later where we had the close game. I think Austin and the offense scored a td in the second half of that first nw game.

Yep, you're right. Usually I check things like that but this time I went from memory. NWern wanted revenge on Solich from a bowl game a couple years earlier when he was at Nebraska and the Huskers ran up the score.
