The Lions made the announcement a couple days ago when they released a bunch of players including Will Arndt, the other primary candidate for the job. https://3downnation.com/2021/07/26/b-c-lions-hc-rick-camp... /

They start their season a week from today. Hopefully Nathan gets some action during the month of August.

I see that mike Reilly was pulled from practice today... wonder if Nathan might start Friday.

you'd be interested to know Nathan is ahead of Shea Patterson on Lions depth chart.

pretty sure there were mock NFL drafts with Shea at #1 overall...... says something about mock drafts, I think

One thing I like about Rourke is how competitive he is. I cant find the audio anymore, but someone in the CFL networks had an interview with him in the days following the final CFL roster cut down, like late July, early August.

The gist of the interview questions were if Nathan was relieved that the cut down day had come and gone and he made the roster. Also, if he was going to make the field in a non-QB position.

Rourke is usually very diplomatic in interviews but one could almost sense that he was not happy or interested in those questions. That he was here to be QB1.

If I can find the audio again, I'll post it.

This is the latest word i've seen on Reilly. Looks like he is just on a "Pitch count" to be ready for friday's game.

it's probably in the article posted but i see "reilly hasn't thrown since sunday".

news of reilly having an MRI came out today or yesterday .. although i think the MRI was done july 18th, or thereabouts.

for those who don't know, reilly is pretty old football-wise. and i think the cancelled 2020 season will be especially harsh on older players.

new CFL QB (rourke and shea patterson) used to be so awful in their first starts.. but i think that's changed over the years. american Qb's might actually throw a CFL ball (much bigger) in anticipation of coming to the league and in the off-season.

i see seantrel henderson on the suspended list (not sure from what.. some of the suspended players are opt-outs but seantrell just signed this year) for saskatchewan. i'll see if can find any other name NCAA players/recruits from the 2 teams

cody fajardo (nevada.... successor to kapernick i think) at QB for saskatchewan.

paxson lynch (name?) ex-memphis and denver bronco QB as backup.

nick marshall - former auburn QB, i think - at DB for saskatchewan

not so good early on for Nathan, although the Lions had far bigger problems than that early.

strange logical decision. but lions bring in Reilly down big.. he does well and sask scores only a few more points.

and then Nathan came back in late and looked really good.

shocking, but arguably if BC had better FG kicking they would have won this game .. of course, maybe Sask scores more later on themselves in that scenario

Good stat line for Nathan. 10-18, 2 int, 2 TD throws.

I did not expect Rourke to start and missed most of his first half. It definitely doesn't look like the league is too big for him. His skill set seems to fit perfectly and his arm strength seems to be fine for the CFL. I also think that there is no way Reilly, the starting QB, gets better without a long rest. His arm strength looked terrible. I would expect to see lots of Rourke this season.

The story this morning is that Reilly was set to start but his elbow got progressively worse during warmups, so Nathan started. They worked on him during the first half and he played the third quarter but his arm kept weakening as the quarter wore on. It sounds like Nathan will be the starter for a while at least.

Saw a replay of his first TD. Picture perfect. Whitehead was open about 30 yards downfield and Nathan put it right on target. Whitehead caught it just about in stride and cruised for an easy 75-yd TD. https://www.bclions.com/2021/08/06/canadian-nathan-rourke... /

tale of 2 cities on Nathan...

he was terrible early on (i don't blame him. and new CFL QB's have huge problems usually)

then they brought him back in late (and NOT garbage minutes), and he was awesome.

BC fans were on balance very happy with Nathan :)

with a new CFL QB, the ball is different... but more importantly, the game flows differently than american football. unlimited motion at line and receivers can do motion towards the line, timing the snap.. so the play develops completely differently than NCAA/NFL.... and 10 year vets have it down completely cold. like clockwork.

Mike Reilly, the Lions starter, is a soap opera unto himself.... no idea why you would not start him but bring him in down 21 early. i don't see the logic. they say they worked on him with massage and he got better with that. so he could go in LOL

Milt Stegall, TSN panelist and former Miami(Ohio)/Cincinnati Bengal WR was scathing on BC's decision to bring Reilly into the game.

confused on Reilly.... his stat line was really good, but he threw a bunch of wounded ducks.

they need to use Nathan's speed to move the pocket....... i'd say that is incredibly important for a new CFL QB. otherwise, it is very tough.

Here's the TSN panel after the game. They really ripped into the decision making, or lack thereof for the fiasco that occurred. The good thing for Nathan is that he seemed to impress people for being thrown into the situation without much preperation.
