after doing a little bit of thinking and investigating. I think the big 10 definetley wants to stay in a foot race with the SEC. The following list of schools i think would be reasonable targets

iowa state and kansas is already being talked about but this would be my least favorite but maybe most likely.
Why not go after Duke and north carolina and open up the south a little bit and extend the foot print. ACC schools can easily be drawn away because of money paid out by conference.
or if texas A&M really wants away from texas and oklahoma why not lure them and Missouri to the big 10.

The other team that makes sense is pitt. Even though i thought boston college i am not sure that makes sense.

The last option would be go take a couple of pac 12 teams. But i dont think this realignment is just going to be teams eating up the big 12 teams. The ACC TV deals suck.

Suppose....All this winds up dissolving the B12 -- maybe not right away, but in a few years. (A conference has to have at least eight teams and without Okla and Texas the B12 would be at the minimum.) A defunct B12 would leave nine conferences: four "P"s and the G5. Under the new CFP proposal, the playoff field would be the top six rated conference champs and the top six rated non-champs. Assuming this is adopted without alteration, that means at least two G5 conference champs would be in the field every year. Unless, of course, they change the format again.

Beginning to think this move by Texas and OU was just a ploy to get more revenue from the Big XII. "Oh you're not gonna pay us more, fine we'll go elsewhere." Already seeing talks of Texas and OU getting $100M while the rest of the conference members get $25M. I'm not sure how that is legal or why the rest of the league would approve it, but I would not be shocked if that's the final decision in all this. West Virginia is being rumored to leave the conference no matter which decision is reached.

Boise State did something similar with the Mountain West when they threated to leave for the Big East/AAC, and the rest of the conference despises them for it.

All in all, if there is another round of realignment I just hope the MAC does something this time around to strengthen the conference rather than standing pat. Wishful thinking, I know. C-USA is dead weight, but adding a couple schools from there within the relative footprint would be huge, I think. Marshall and Western Kentucky makes so much sense and I will die on this hill. If not one of those, Army. Please by god make a phone call to Army. Unless the AAC nabs them when Cincinnati and Memphis jump ship...

Random thoughts:

-Pitt has not moved the needle much in the two big sports since joining the ACC. Don't know if the Big 10 would want them, especially with Penn State already at the table putting up a lot of resistance. I would guess the Pittsburgh/Western PA market would not increase much beyond what the Lions already pull.

Pitt does have the AAU feather in their cap, though.

-If Oklahoma and Texas do move to the SEC, the Big 12 better move quick to stabilize if they don't want to implode-the domino effect may be too much to overcome if other schools are lured away.

Adding schools from the AAC might be their best hand, with maybe Cincinnati and Memphis, along with Houston, SMU, in attempt to cobble some old Southwest Conference nostalgia. Not sure how much loyalty they feel to WVU, but having some teams a bit further east could keep them from shopping around. Would think Boise or BYU may be of interest, too. Already having two faith-based schools in conference makes for a smoother path for BYU as long as the non-Sunday games stipulation isn't a deal killer (their basketball conference championship game is on a Saturday currently)

-I don't see the ACC wanting anything to do with WVU. Minimal media gains and I frankly think most of the powers that be of the conference (and the fan bases, right or wrong) likely look down on the school.

Notre Dame would likely be the most likely target given their standing membership in the conference for all other sports, along with the cluster of ACC games they are already playing for football.

Only scenario I see any other new members being invited is if the SEC or Big 10 peel off existing teams.

Anything is possible in the current landscape. The chasm will continue to grow between the P5 and G5 teams. I can see some P5 teams losing their seats at the table and a handful of G5 schools getting pulled up.

I've once again underestimated the size of greed in college athletics. However I still stand by my statement that Texas thinks they're better than they are.

Saw the same basic message on ESPN this morning.

Will be interested in watching what other maneuvers are put into motion.

So they pay off those obligations and move before 2025?

That seems to be the consensus.

Between the schools, and/or the conference no one thinks paying, to get out early, is an issue.

Don't know how serious it is, but I saw one report that the SEC also has their eyes on OSU and Mich.

Big question, what schools will object to Texas and Oklahoma.

Texas AM&M and Arkansas seem possible.

Same with Mizzu.
They have issues with Texas.

The only other school besides those three I could see having an issue is LSU. They already hate Texas A&M so adding another Texas school? I don't know though. It's gonna be hard to get the votes to block this.
