I like your optimism on Denson, Bostic and Daxon. It's a pretty deep backfield if Wilbon can't make the top 3. I'd like to see Ross used more as a Daz type player and get Wilbon more reps.

Agree with on you Wilbon.

Ross is also a heck of a receiver.

Maybe trying to catch lightning in a bottle with Bostic and Denson and Daxon….yet those three when motivated are as good as it gets.

That sounds about right...

Weatherspoon is a good call. I think he has a shot to be great.

I hope you are right about Bostic- he has good size and all but not a ton of production with 3 seasons in Vandy

Rhone has a chance to be special. He has great hands and can run block. Probably a redshirt with some spot duty this year at minimum.

Interested to see what DE Mayfield and CB Denson can do in year one.

I think DT Rodney Mathews and DE Michael Taylor will see significant snaps

We really havent had a good DE pass rusher since Basham. Conrad did a nice job, coming over from TE and Evans is better at run defense. Hopefully Taylor, Mayfield, and/or Watkins or someone else can create more pressure this year. If not, could be time to do some stuff with all the athletic linebackers we have to create some pressure.

Nice interview with Wilbon on the home page and picture that includes Tettleton coaching him through a drill. Looks like he’s expecting to see the field this season. I think that’s exciting news. We do seem loaded at RB. Looking forward to seeing him.

Also, I notice Daxon is now number “0”. I’m not really up on such things but isn’t that often an “alpha dog” statement of some sort? Maybe it’s just the number “1” that frequently fills that role and I’m reading something into it that’s not there. I probably should work on containing my enthusiasm. ;)

No. It's meat from the east.

Will be curious to see what Bostic does.

Looking at Vandy's stats last year, he only had one snag for 12 yards.

Just noticed that earlier this month Arkley commented on starting lineman in the scrimmage.

https://suacbobcats.com/2021/08/14/bobcats-break-in-fall-... /

Some BIG guys on both sides of the ball...

OL
C-Sink
G-Meservy
G-Danneker
T-Amburgey
T-Jackson

DL
DE-Dugan
DE-Taylor
DT-Daxson
DT-Caesar

I love that we've got 3 5th-year seniors on the offensive line. In fact, this entire group are guys who have redshirted...

Did I miss also Keye Thompson and Isaiah Cox and why they are not listed? Those are two that stood out, along with Chris Mayfield.

On August 22nd, Arkley wrote that Keye Thompson didn't participate in either scrimmage due to a knee injury and Cox didn't participate due to an off-the-field issue.

Also, please note that this 2-deep is not typically supplied by the team. It's the Media Relations Coordinator's best guess.

Sounds like nothing major….just a few names left off.

Agreed.

I was interested to see Habinowski listed behind Jackson. It had sounded like he had been practicing more at guard. Kinda like the idea of him sliding into Jackson's spot next year.

If the roster on the website is correct (and if my count is correct), we have 18 men on the roster who are 300lbs+. It would be interesting to see how that compares with the rest of the MAC!

I would think that has to be near the top, if not the top.

You are right. Here is what I counted per school:

Ohio 18
Eastern Michigan 15
Miami 15
Northern Illinois 14
Western Michigan 13
Ball State 12
Central Michigan 12
Toledo 10
Akron 8
Bowling Green 8
Kent State 5
Buffalo 3

Comparing our 2-deep to Syracuse, I was encouraged that we’ve got the size advantage in the trenches. Typically, P5 teams are noticeably bigger on the lines. The size of our lineman this year looks more like a P5 school than a MAC school. One of the underrated aspects of our continuity of the coaching staff is consistently redshirting offensive lineman which makes a big difference in the size of our guys.
